One of my customers has run into trouble trying to play a backup of GH4. The problem is that wii brickblocker seems to have no effect on the update and is not properly removing it. This is making me wonder if the big N has done something different in regards to the updates.

If anyone has done the GH4 update to a modded wii can you let me know if there were any negative effects.

Wii modded with D2ProV3, Firmware 3.3U, Wii Brick Blocker version 1.3R2.

I cant tell you if it works or not but there have been similar issues with many games such as this. Originally the first i remember was with guitar hero 3. Then super smash bros also had an update that was not a firmware update but a double layer disk enabler. It had an update that had to install but was not firmware related, the next i remembered was wii fit which also had an update obviously this update was also not firmware but was to allow the wii balance board to work. After that was rock band with the drums and other insturments same thing no firmware update just updates for the new hardware compatibility. and lastly is boogie superstar which has to install a new driver for there new microphone but does not actually have firmware update. Now theres guitar hero world tour with new insturments that would have the same problem so.

From all of this i've gathered that you can not brick block ANY of these disks UNLESS you already have the update installed on your system. In other words if you burn the game without brick blocking it and update with the disk the game should work from then on and would then enable the brick blocked disk that you already have to work as well. If you have not installed the update from what i have experienced with all these other games is that they will load and lock on a black screen. (With the exception of brawl it would load up to the first video then lock up.)

So in saying all this i cant guarantee that there is no Firmware update on ANY of these disks however i have 3.1 and have updated with all of these games except boogie superstar and guitar hero world tour and i still have 3.1 with all these games working without brick blocker.

Hope this helps I'm also looking for someone to test boogie superstar for a firmware before i finaly decide to try it because i only have a pal version.

If one updates their Wii with the special device update (Like GH4's instrument update) it usually ALSO installs the latest firmware at the time of that games release.

So if we install GH4 updates, and then Downgrade our firmware back to 3.2U, will the instrument updates still be valid?

Someone needs to test this I think.
Not it.

like i said i dont think thats entirely true, they said wii fit came with 3.3 update and ive updated with it and im still 3.1 without downgradeing. I think GH4 would be the same but i dont even have it yet to test lol.

From what I understand from all the other threads I've read, if you update from a disk that matches the region code for your system it will NOT brick your wii. But then again I have a 3.3u system and I avoid pal format disks and have not updated since the oct update which was before I modded my wii personally I would update from a disk from the US/NTSC region

Is there any way to buy songs from the online store with 3.2u firmware? It tells me I need to upgrade to 3.3u to buy songs. (Really just want 1 song for my kids)

Hi blklotus,
I am on 3.1U, and was prompted to run the System Update on the disc. I cancelled this, and tried removing the update via WIU 1.1, reburned, and got up to the GHWT disc screen.

However, the screen just went black. After reading through various other forums, I found that the update on the disc is NOT a firmware update. Maybe it is an update for either the USB mic, or something else, as I did go ahead and run the update. I then checked my firmware, and it is still at 3.1U, and the game works! :)
