Hey all - I'm having some getting my hitachi 47 dj to play my backups. It seems like it flashed ok, I get it into mode b okay with slax, it shows up windows, I got the pass: 100% complete message after running ixtreme 1.4. But when I go to play a backup (burnt at 2.4 speed, sector break at 1913760in imgburn)it just says "Unplayable Disc"
Anyone have any clue, cause I am going insane over this...
thanks for reading :/

Man I know what you mean, lol. After burning 10+ coasters, I have finally found a way that works for me, and should work for you. I have a Hitachi 47 drive too and I'm burning with a Lite-On 20x SATA DL drive. They say that bit setting and seting the book type isn't important because of the new iXtreme 1.4 (I think your drive needs to be capable, but ImgBurn does it automatically) but I still set it any way just for assurance. This tutorial: http://www.teamxmods.com/burning-360-backups-with-imgburn/ , is what I used and it's good for getting the main idea. For me, I had to do a few things different though:

1. Instead of burning the .dvd file, I make sure the .ISO is alone in it's own folder and burn it(you must set the layer break manually in order to do this).

2. Burn at a faster speed. This helped me because my drive is brand new and is smoking fast. I have found that Verbatim 8x discs burn best at 4x and Memorex 8x discs burn best at 6x. Don't know why, but they do.
(this is my drive btw: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...57&Tpk=LH-20a1s

3. Run the .ISO through ABGX360 GUI (I use version 0.9.4). You can just Google this, it should be easy to find. And you can Google "ABGX360 tutorial" and find a tutorial that will show you the best way to configure this program. This program verifies that the game is ready to be burned, and most of the time, will fix all the tiny errors that cause coasters due to a slightly messed up .ISO file. Xdvdmulleter is great for patching game rips too. There are several YouTube videos on how to do this. Here is a good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isYsiRJm9kY. It's towards the end of it when he uses it.

4. You may have to clean your laser, I did (in order to get Memorex 8x discs to read). This is easy. Just take your Hitachi 47 drive out and remove the four screws that hold the top part of the drive case on. Then dip a Q-tip in isopropyl alcohol. Pinch the end of the Q-tip to ensure that you don't have too much alcohol on the Q-tip. Then softly brush the laser back and forth several times. Next, just use the other end of the Q-tip to dry the laser thoroughly. Then put everything back the way it was. It is that easy.

5. If you are not sure if your drive supports bit setting, Google and download DVDInfoPro. It gives you like 14 days free, which is more than enough to do what you need it for. Run it and at the top of the program you'll see an icon that says "book". Click it and if it doesn't tell you that your drive doesn't support bit setting, then you are good to go.

Well, I think that's all of my trick of the trade. I don't know how much of this, if any, that you already know, but here it is. And I'm sure that someone will try to discredit this information or something, but I swear to you that it worked for me. I was in your shoes a while back and at my wits end over it. It's like you do all the work to flash your drive and you find out that burning is 90% of the battle. And everyone has a different way of doing things and tells it for fact, even though it doesn't work at all for you. And this might not work for you either. But it did work for me and I want to pass it on to you, because I know how you feel. Believe me, lol!

wow...I don't know what to say. This is perhaps the most detailed, succinct, articulate response I have ever gotten on a message board. Seriously, thanks, this cleared up a lot of issues I was having. I just downloaded ABGX360 and am getting ready to mess with it - is it much different than xdvdmulleter? I ran a game through that and it said it was "fixing" it, but it still wouldn't play. I'm still not to up on what bit setting is all about, but i'll look into it for sure, as well as clean up the laser. All in all, it's good to know it's not just me, and I may only need to do a little more research before it's working. One last question, If I'm not planning on playing online, or even hooking up an Ethernet to this xbox, should I just downgrade firmware to make it play my backups easier, if so what firmware should I use. Again, thanks man, maybe I can actually return the favor some day and give someone else a damn good reply to help them out. This was literally the ONLY good reply I got after posting this on at least 12 different boards. 360modder, you are my hero.

You are more than welcome. I have posted several questions on this forum alone with no responses at all. ABGX360 is like xdvdmulleter, only fully automated. When it's configured correctly, you just load the .ISO and hit the Launch button. As far as the firmware goes, I couldn't tell you. I've just been looking for ways to burn discs compatible with the latest iXtreme 1.4 firmware. I would say that the latest is probably the most compatible, but I don't know. It could still have a few bugs. And in case you couldn't find any info on it, bit setting is the process of book typing(i guess that's a good way of putting it). It helps with compatibility. When set up correctly, it will make a DVD+R DL look like a DVD-ROM to the Xbox 360, which will increase your chances of it reading it. They say it isn't necessary because the iXtreme 1.4 firmware doesn't require it, but the way I look at it, it couldn't hurt any thing.

I'm still learning a lot myself and I've got several games that I still haven't got to burn correctly, even though ABGX360 fixed the .ISO. But I feel like I'm getting close to figuring it all out. It's usually just the little things that will cause snags. Just keep researching it like me, and hopefully one day we'll get a surefire way that works for us, lol.

Okay so both ABGX360 and mulleter both verify the the file and the disc, but it still won't play...any clue anyone? Could it be my external ram.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">dvd-ram drive?
