A while ago, I had my Wii chipped. How do I tell what chip it is and how do I tell what version it is running?
Then, how do I update software?
Thank you

The only way to find out what chip it is is to open the console up and look at it. There's no way to tell what firmware level its at. Updating the firmware (if possible) will depend on what chip you have.

Of course you don't actually have to update the firmware for most chips on the market today. They have 100% compatibility for all games. If you're having trouble running some games we may be able to figure out the problem if you can explain exactly whats happening.

The issue I have is that when I insert certain new games(ie Lego Batman) it states that an update is required. I am unsure if this is safe to do or not. I updated Mario Kart after a lot of nervous delibereating and was lucky. How do I tell if an update from a game will brick my console?
Thanks again

If the game is from your wii's home region then its safe to update. If it isnt then its not safe to update. Pretty simple.

Do keep in mind though the possible side effects of updates after 3.2. Firmware 3.3 blocks truncha-signed disks. And the newest shop channel update (not yet on any games) blocks the wad installer unless you have custom firmware installed.

Of course if you dont use any homebrew and all your backups are straight, unmodified copies of original game disks then you dont have to worry about any of that.

You could have got the answer if you searched for it. This is also covered in a guide in the Ultimate Sticky Thread. All it takes is a little time and effort.
