n00b question: how to tell if drive burns DL?

So, I have a Matshita UJ-8050S drive, and it can read that I have a DL disc in the drive, but twice now the burning has stopped at 51% using both CloneCD and DVDDecrypter, both with the layer break at the suggested spot.
Now, I'm pretty sure it's my drive, and not the discs, as I'm using MIS Verbatim DVD+R DL's. How do I find out if it's for sure my drive?
The one thing I forgot to do before burning was changing the book type.
Anyone help? Please?

So, downloaded DVDInfoPro, told me it does, but tried my other drive as well, said it does. So I changed the BookType.
1% to go, and I'll find out or not.
52% IT's GOOD!!!!

Normally on the front of the drive it'll have a little logo showing DL+R

I thought that too but the dvd burner that came with my Vaio doesn't have any markings at all. I used DVDInfoPro for that one and found out it could burn +DL's. Good program.

General rule of thumb.. if it's made in the last 4 years it isn't going to be a problem... it may just burn coasters tho because 360 burning is a bit of an art and the burner is a major link in the chain.

Took me 5 tries, but i burned my first 360 game last night, next up, two more.
