It's pretty much just for workstation's, like processing unknown graphical data, not for gaming as said above. If anyone uses F@H, this card would be a BEAST. Just imagine the sheer power of going through all the protein folding. It must be tons faster than the consumer grade cards.

Current games can even use 500MB right because of the rush to co dev with console port so what good is better hardware if the damn games are fcking built right?
Even "if" DX10 were that much better to code for and utilize vista is still......... not.

once more this is not a gaming graphics card, and yes games use much more than 512mb ram, esp at very high resolutions and with alot of AA/AF.
this is a workstation gfx card, used for auto CAD and maya, etc.

tbh depends on the game. farcry 2 and fallout 3 NEED mroe than 512mb RAM, esp in FO3, where there is nuclear waste all over the city and debry flying around (and lots of it), to apply AA to each one, some even 4x/8xAA then 512 runs out very quickly, just check out the benchmarks. :)

I have 610MB 8800gts super clock and from what I read the game cannot cache the ramm right and crashes out alot and it has, at least the BSOD have stopped..
What am getting at they are not built to handle card memory correctly.

im guessing you mean 640MB :)
and tbh thats a 2 year old card now, and im not surprised that its BSODing. when does it BSOD, as an RMA might be needed if the RAM is borked.

I can;t tell if tis ahrdware or not the BSOD stopped only had abotu 5 in abotu 4-8 hours worth of gaming over a couple days now its just normal crash out to windows, ow I have issues running videos and have issues running them since I installed FO3 and its Gdamn DRM....

twice and different versions, even re did my codecs,games are working but videos want to crash and lock up the system....more likly its a odd DX issue that a reinstall is the only thing to fix, unless....mmmm I'll try reinstall the chipset drivers...

you are so right! That happens to me ALL the time. When I update my computer (which I do a lot), I try to get the latest stuff. I end up spending big $$$ thinking I have the fastest PC possible. About 6 months later, new components come to market, and the things I bought are about half price :(

I feel sorry for the people who bought the GTX 280 as soon as it came out. It dropped a good amount so quickly!

It would be good if they sold a cheaper 2Gb version for smaller companies or individuals looking for the power of Quadro GPUs. The sheer power of 240 CUDA programmable parallel cores would save precious time + money.
It would be interesting to see someone running this GPU on folding to find out if its any faster than a 4870x2 2GB GPU or 280GTX 1Gb - my money says it is but will it be a big enough margin to warrant the huge pricetag?
