So, as the subject says, i broke my Lite-On while playing around with it, I decided to order a pre-flashed samsung drive that has ixtreme firmware already. Is it possible to just insert the new drive, and voíla, everything works?

the description on the samsung drive says that "pre-flashed samsung for you're non flashable lite-on" could it be any how possible that i may not require the key. Or do i need to set the key on the hard drive or something?

How the deuce is the person you bought the "preflashed" samsung dvd drive from going to have your unique dvd drive key, the one on your broken lite-on" inorder to flash the samsung they are sending to you?

You are going to need to either repair your lite-on drive or get the key from it and spoof the new sammy that you are getting.
Good luck.

why is the old key from lite-in so important if the samsung drive is already flashed?

It won't play games without the key.
The dvd drive is locked to the motherboard with that key.
So when you stick the Samsung drive into your system it will play cd's and movies but not games.
Inorder for a lite-on, or any other dvd drive, to be swapped out the dvd drive key has to be extracted and then a hacked firmware can be created and flashed to spoof another drive to work with your motherboard.
A dvd drive can be flashed but if they don't have your key when flashing it then it won't play games in your system when you get it.

Does that make sense?

like the guy before me said... the DVD and motherboard are tied together with a key ...

its impossible for the new drive you bought to have a key that matches your motherboard...

Your welcome.
I'm holding out myself for a user friendly way to deal with lite-on drives. I've been looking around for BenQ's to swap with and they are both scarce and expensive but the appeal of the Jasper motherboard when it comes out has me thinking really hard about biting the bullet and doing it.

I agree, the Benqs are hard to find. As for user friendly, search for Maximus's "Spear" vid on YouTube. ;)

I feel as if it has gotten easier to go ahead and take out the lite-on drives and swap it with another drive. Like you could get a samsung and use that to replace the lite-on.

Especially with the new xecuter connectivity kit, I definitely think it is now a much easier process than what it used to be.

Last I read, only spoofing the Benq is recommended if the user want to access LIVE. The Samsungs and Hitachis could be easily detected.
