Ok, well idk what happened to it, i was playing Madden 09 for a while, then i started to play demos of games to see which ones i liked. I went to Game Stop and bought Worms 2, Got home, put in the game, and SCRATTCCHHHHH, its kept making this grinding sound, but whenever i put my psp face down, it works just fine..so its not the laser, idk whats wrong with it....

To answer your question, it's most likely your game. Take it back to the store and get a different copy. As long as you bring it back within a reasonable amount of time (usually within a week) they shouldn't have a problem letting you swap it out for a different copy of the game.
