Memorex disc's.. to burn my backups of course

and so far they have been working great, but today a friend told me that these disc's can really screw up a laser in a 360, but another friend tells me that he has been using this brand for like 2 years and hasnt had any problems at all

i have only been using backups for a few weeks now, so i doubt i have done any serious harm to my laser as of yet, and i can always switch to the higher quality media if need be(though they are HORRIFICLY expensive where i live)

but if im not posing any danger to my 360 ill just stick with these ones, cuz so far they have been working great

anyone know?

the disk would mess up the laser ?? sounds like some kinda urban legend to me..

i think the bias against memorex is unfounded... maybe it is some people from the verbatim company on here cause they sure tow the company line.

anyways, if the memorex is working for you i see no problem. people complain about them cause they think the burns are always bad and the games will never work. i have burned memorex before and the game loaded fine, so just like you i haven't had trouble with them.

right now i'm using Ridata disks and they too work just fine. as you can see i'm not employed by the verbatim company

Some people have success with Memorex, others don't. From my years in various forums I have studied which brands are the best and which are crap. Time and time again whenever somebody is having problems I ask them what brand of media they use. "Memorex".

I mean they are not all bad. If they work for you then great. But I personally would not touch any Memorex discs with a 10 foot pole.

It is not an urban legend, its due to the fact that the poor quality disc's do not burn as well, and actually cause strain on the laser as it is reading the discs. I have read people having their lasers die after short periods of time using cheap media. The verbatims may seem expensive but your really saving yourself money in the long run. Just make sure you get Made in Singapore discs if you can, newegg.com is a great place. I have burnt about 70 games on verbatims and had 0 coasters (not counting my first two where i didn't set layer break), and none of the drives have failed.
Personally i would not risk using the cheaper even if it isn't proven, there are still enough people that have had problems w/them to make an accurate assumption.

anyone can try for them selves, burn 100 dvd's with anything iso on memorex and burn the exact same anything iso on verbs and you will see the difference, anywhere between 3 and 8 coasters from the memorex pile.
i have burned thousands on top of thousands dvd's ranging from movies, psp games, xbox games and xbox360 games and have used memorex, sony, ritek, ect, ect and the verbs come out on top every time.
so when you buy those expensive verbs just remember if you get a few less coasters with the verbs than you have saved yourself some green and time.
as far as laser problems, it is no myth! i have seen considerable increase in load times of games burned on mems and sony games vs. verbs, also i have heard the drive noise increase on the mentioned disks, do i think it will kill your drive in a week?.. no. but over time, two or three years it could very well shorten its life.

I have lost all and any respect i had for this site!

I've only used Memorex, and have never made a coaster. 70 burns and counting. I also do several backups for other people, and have never had a problem.

I think it depends on your burner personally. Some burners will not do a good burn on a lower-quality disc, some will.

with the new dashboard update that allows games to be installed to the HD that is a non-issue.

if the memorex works for you i say use it.
