I'm a noob but I think I've done everything right so far. Catch 22 maybe? If I've done everything right then I wouldn't have any issues. Right...

I have firmware 3.1u. So far I've installed the homebrew channel using the guide in evnflow's thread. I followed everything exactly. The homebrew channel popped up just fine. The problem is that when I try to install the cIOS wad through the WAD Installer I get "ERROR! (ret = -1029)". I don't have any GC cards plugged in. I'm not really sure where to go from here. I'll add that when I try to launch Fceu ultra or homebrew browser from the homebrew channel I get an error saying they are not valid Wii applications. Snes9x works, though. So maybe the issues are related and can point to something. Please please help. I'm at my wits end with this. >:O

What are you trying to acomplish here?

What cISO are you trying to install and what homebrew are you using that requires the instilation of the cISO?

Ultimately I'd like to have a channel just to launch wiigators backup launcher. The tutorial says to install the cIOS wad first. I was under the assumption this was necessary to run the backup launcher through it's own channel.

I'd also like to get fceu ultra working but that's not a priority

Have you installed any previous cISO files or xDVD or is the only thing you have instyalled is The Homebrew Channel?

I did install another cIOS from another forum trying to figure this out but it didn't make a difference. I don't have a link since I'm posting from my phone right now. I also did install xDVD but removed it after it didnt seem to affect anything.

Alright give me a second to write up a little guide for you. It should work if everything you installed previously has been uninstalled (this dosen't include the hombrew channel. Keep that installed).

You do not need xDVD to run the newest WiiGator version. As well all previous cISO should be uninstalled so if you could not install any then you should be fine.

Give me a few.

As I said above you do not need xDVD installed so make sure it is uninstalled. I also included a download below that has all the files needed. Also make sure no previous cISO are installed this can conflict with the instillation of the updated cISO.

First format your SD card via PC as default (fat 16).

Now download this file HERE.

Extract the file that you just downloaded. This will extract a "boot loader" folder.

Drag all the folders that are inside the boot loader folder to the root of the SD CARD (make sure you drag the folders inside the boot loader folder to the root of SD CARD not the boot loader folder itself).

Now place the SD CARD in your Wii and start the Homebrew Channel.

When the Homebrew Channel comes up choose "cISO249 installer" in the list. This should install the cISO just follow the on screen instructions (if you still get an error you might need to try using a different SD CARD).

After the installation of the cISO go to the Homebrew Channel again this time launch wad manager from the menu. Choose to access the sd card and go to "BackupChannel_0.3-ForceNTSC.wad" in the list and press + on the WiiMote to install the WiiGator 0.3 force NTSC channel.

You are now done with installing the boot loader channel. You can now put in a backup game (it doesn't need to be patched) and launch it via the WiiGator boot loader channel.

I have also included a revised version of WiiGator's boot loader 0.3 the code has been revised to launch some backup games that the original WiiGator 0.3 beta boot loader wouldn't boot (it also fixes some issues with other games that the original had problems with). To launch that version place a backup game in the Wii and start the Homebrew Channel and launch the "boot launcher" listed in the Homebrew Channel menu.

I have also included the fceu ultra port for Wii. You can launch that by starting the Homebrew Channel and select "FCE ULTRA GX" in the Hombrew Channel menu. You place the ROM files in the directory of SD CARD:fceugx/roms folder.

After all of this is set up you can then delete the following folders off the SD CARD because they are no longer needed...

00000001 folder
cIOS_Installer249 Folder

Excellent! Thanks, man. I'll give this a shot when I get home later this afternoon, I just have one basic question I should probably know, how do I check if I have a previous cISO installed and if I do, how do I remove it?

You can use Custom IOS Uninstaller v1.1

You can download and read more about it HERE.

Thank you so much, it all worked out. Now that it's all done I feel stupid I couldn't figure this out on my own, it's all pretty easy.

Glad it worked for you and everything is working.

It can be overwhelming at first with all the different versions of Backup launcher and different steps to install each of them. But the newest version is the easiest to install plus it has better compatibility.

The new 0.3 Gamma should be out soon and this will even be better. Plus it will allow you to boot via the disc channel itself and not need a separate loader.

When the new version comes out I will reply in this thread and let you know.

Well it looks like Gamma was release the day before you made your post.

I was checking out a this compatibility list, it's incredible. I have a wiikey2 coming in the mail right now and I'm not 100% sure I'm going to install it just yet.

Yeap it came out already.

If you already have a Wiikey 2 on the way I would install that instead of the backup launcher. The compatibility is 100% on same region backups with a modchip and close to 99% with out of region games. Plus the backup launcher will be more vulnerable to future Nintendo updates. So your better choice is still a Modchip.
