I'm going to post this because I wasted a lot of time not understanding until yesterday when i finally "got it".

Hopefully this can help other newbs out there.

I bought the WiiKey2 and the wii clip.

I bought the Wii after. I have always been into Playstation modding since day one, but never looked at the wii until two days ago. I got the Wii home and researchd (yes shoulda done it prior... o well). I put my SN into the SN search and it said 50% its a GC2-D2C. And pins id cut id have to look at it myself.

So I open it up and it's actually gc2-d2e with SN starting with Lu11
Now I look at the pins and I can't tell what "cut" means. I look up some pics of cut pins solder mod and it looks identical. I spent over an hour with the box open trying to tell the difference. Finnaly I stumbled upon this page hxxp://www.wii-chip.co.uk/wii-mod/WiiKey%20or%20D2Cpro.html

Which words it slightly different and made all the difference in the world. it says, "open it up and see if there are any pins MISSING" then when i re looked at the pics of the "cut" pins sure enuff just barely under the soldered wires you can see some pins are not there. But to a newb with "cut" being the word. Those pics look identical to the chip since there are three wires blocking view of the MISSING pins. (i understand the pins arent actually missing. but to a newb this is the best way to describe it.)

so i take one look at my box now after this and there are no missing pins.. meaning it's not cut... meaning the clip should work.

Just thought I would share this so any other newb that wants to try and do this doesn't have the same time spent on nothing.

:)

Also slight variation on mine. There were two extra screws not listed in the dissassembly guide to take the top cover off and also the metal cover over the drive is affixed to the top plastic cover so they came off together.

As has been covered many times in the past only some D2B wii's had cut pins. Cut pins dont effect anyone buying a wii now, only those who bought one over a year ago.

Also, the wii SN tracker is rather out of date. It doesn't have D2C2 or D2E chipsets listed and just shows them all as D2C. Again, its not really a huge deal because any of the new modchips work for all current chipsets, but it always seems to say theres a 50% chance that the pins are cut and it confuses alot of newbies.
