So, I came here because I'm trying to salvage my 360. I realize I probably did something stupid, but I am just looking for some guidance. Here it goes....

My 360 had been acting up for quite some time. It did the signature spin up with the disgusting grinding noise and eventually would show the "you're a jackass and the disc is unreadable" notification. I concluded that the drive was bad and thought that swapping it would be the best case. I am out of warranty and Microsoft wanted me to pay only slightly less than buying a used system.

I watched/read a few tutorials and then ordered what I thought was the corresponding dvd-rom drive...the toshiba/samsung. I looked up another video while I was installing it and switching out the PCB or whatever it was. This was the first video that noted the firmware being ms25 or ms28(?) (fuzzy on the number). Anyway, it was not the same as my original system. I installed it anyway and booted it up.

The system turned on fine and the drive opened smoother than ever. I placed my disc in and closed it back up. Then the fun began, it just sat there and said "insert disc". I thought to myself "Ok, i must've f***** something up" and went back in to check the connections. Everything seemed to be fine. There are no apparent crimps in any of the ribbon cables and everything appears to be securely fastened.

Any suggestions where to go to from here? Is it as simple as me being functionally retarded and ordering the wrong drive? Any help is appreciated.
