Ok 360 bought and happy bunny, its a liteon ofcourse and will not be used yet. now my options are send it off and have the drive replaced and spoofed if so what make should i be looking for/avoiding. Secondly are we on the cusp of a new i extreme firmware release? should i wait and lastly ive read tonight on these very forums of a possible liteon fw solution, would there be any advantage in this, money aside?
thanks again for taking time to help, I may have only been here 2 days but trust me im into double figures on hours browsing! ;o)

yea i believe you want to stay away from the samsung and its either the benq or hitachi. fw is close upon us. and i would just wait another week or so.

As far as i understand there will never be a fw solution to the lite-on drive since it is READ-ONLY! This means that you cannot re-write the firmware, which is why you have to spoof a drive. The data on it is stored as ROM (Read Only Memory), and is flashed to the chip when it is manufactured using special devices. This memory can then be read but cnanot be we-wrriten (this would require a PROM, programmable read only memory).

yes i believe db is correct... the grand solution that's been spoken of is an easier way for extracting the key from the liteon.. i dont see where anyone has implied we'll be able to use the liteon with ixtreme...

if you're in the states i would go through cumberland mods you can google them.

and yes benq is the best replacement but good luck finding one without spending a fortune...

thanks for the headsup on the samsung, i Think ill wait a month and see what happens then either buy a new benq and send it off or send it of for a hitachi replacement

I wrote about that. It might just be a way to get the key in an easier manner, but from the first source referenced, if it is true, it sounds as if a version of ixtreme was written for the liteon

The Lite On firmware can be dumped with out any soldering. It's been possible for a short while now.
