ok i know im gonna get yelled at for this but i have spent hours reading and i cant find a straighforward answer. i have a ntsc wii with a wiikey. it has version 1.9g. all my backup games play fine. my wife wants to access the wii shop channel because a friend bought her 2000 points for her birthday. It says it needs an update to connect to the shop channel. If i run the update with the wiikey installed is my system going to brick? or is that only when you play out of region games?

You can still play backuped games. The new update that Nintendo recently released is just to stop homebrew. So if you don't care/use homebrew then go ahead and update.

Hi Ndarkness

Will this update affect using Gecko OS through the Homebrew channel to load the backup games or does it only affect the games downloaded for Homebrew channel ?

Thanks.

If you don't use homebrew you can follow NDarkness advice and just update to latest firmware.

If you use homebrew or plan on using it in the future then go HERE and follow 1 of the alternative methods listed. It is a work around for the shop channel update that will keep homebrew working perfectly fine.

After you do one of the methods in the link you should be able to visit the shop channel.

There are known issues with 1.9s, 1.9g and 1.9x and the 3.3U update. Backups will not play when upgraded from 3.2U to 3.3U. No games known as of today require the 3.3U update. I would not upgrade to 3.3U or 3.4U at this point.

There are plenty of users out there with a Wiikey that are on 3.3 and 3.4 firmware.

Those that do have problems after updating most likely have trucha signed backup disc and assume it is the Wiikey causing the issue when in reality it is the trucha signed backups.

No trucha signed backup discs for me. I rip with LG, burn with Sony and use top quality media.

The 3.3U update will not play new backups. Went through same process as before. I did get one backup to play after resetting the box several times. Perhaps I have a drive issue that happened the same time as the 3.3U update.

Hi

Can someone please help me here. What is a TRUCHA signed back-up disc and how do you get it to be like that? If I use wiibrickblocker on an ISO, is that making it a TRUCHA signed backup disc? I am confused as to whether I should be using wiibrickblocker on my ISO's. I am in the USA and all my ISO's are NTSC-USA. I am on firmware 3.3U (safe mode) Thanks to all in advance...

Hey Larry, I used the Muzer ios51 installer for the shop channel and I still get the "you must agree to Nintendo user agreement to access shop channel" message. I am not sure if this is the update or not but I know the new user agreement states that the big N can DL patches, etc to the Wii without users express consent. Any ideas on a work around for this?
