Need advice whether to update from 3.71 M33-4 or not

I have picked up my PSP again after a long break and it has firmware 3.71 m33-4

I have seen that its now up to firmware 5 or something.

I only use the PSP for games and watching converted videos.

Is there any advantage in updating to firmware 5? will i need it? I probably wont play any new games just old ones

Also i have been trying to play some converted files in AVC format and it always comes up unsupported data, is that because of Firmware 3.71 m33-4?

Any help is much appreciated

EDIT

forgot to add that i have an original PSP-1000 which is the Fat PSP i think.

I think my original firmware was 1.5 then i updated to firmware 2.0 then to 3.71 m33-4, i think

Any help is appreciated
