Work-around to install Nero 5.5 on XP Pro

I tried to install Nero 5.5 on my Intel XP Pro P3 933 from the CD that came with the Yamaha drive. I had it installed on another drive on the same hard drive that also had the same program on Win 2000. The install would not complete because the program detected "an old version of Nero.' (even though I only had the same program on the other part of the drive. I didn't have a copy on the XP and I hit the erase button on the screen several times attempting to get the program to install. I had installed an inexpensive DVD read/CD write also.

I ordered a Roxio Platimum EasyCD from Amazon and installed it with a problem. XP Pro locked at the welcome screen before the music and desktop. I used the XP CD and booted to F8 which is the 'last known good' install. It rewrote the registry and booted successfully. (The limiting information must be the registry for the programs.) Even though it was the 'last known good' boot, it had the EasyCD drag-drop icon on the desktop.

Of course, as I had a somewhat inexpensive DVD reader/CD writer in the machine, EasyCD would not recognize it, so I couldn't use it.

So I installed Nero 5.5 successfully again as the Roxio install cleared the registry. I am now happy with my Nero working the Yamaha again on the Intel P3 933 along with the Cyberlink PowerDVD.

I told this story as a new 3-minute member of the Roxio Forum and enjoyed a fast permanent ban from their Forum. It probably tells too many secrets. If Forum members tell too much free speech is expensive.
