I'm new around here too. I just got my wii last week and ordered the wiikey2. I've probably been reading all the same threads you have been. Everything seems to be problems with the clips, with the installs, and choice of media. Basically, if you're competent and solder in the chip you won't have any issues. My chip will probably be here today or tomorrow, I'll post up how my install goes when I get a chance to put it in.

I got the yellow tag wiikey2 in the mail today. I picked up a second unmodded wii on craigslist for $180. I decided it'd be my "practice" one. How's that for self confidence? LOL. I came home and took it apart and saw that it had a d2b chip. I guess I could have bought a clip. Anyhow I went ahead and soldered it in. It took me about an hour. I've never soldered anything this small before. It went pretty smooth, I'm sure if I did this more often I'd get used to making such small joints and work a little faster. Anyhow, I fired it up, put in a few backups that I know work from using the backuploader on my other wii and it worked perfectly. :-D

And oh yeah, I didn't take any picures but there's an awesome PDF on the wiikey site that tells you exactly what to solder. It's cake. Good luck.

here's the PDF
http://www.wiikey.cn/downloads/installWk2v1.2.pdf

And an excellent vid I watched on taking apart the wii. You can stop watching once he separates the drive from the wii. After that he just shows you how the clip works, which doesn't really apply to us.

I'm not even going to try and soder this , i'll get someone with sodering experience to see if the person will take the risk............
Please tell me if i'm looking in the right spot?

They are small, but they aren't too small. I'm an experienced and competent soderer and I've been soldering for years, just not circuit boards this small. If you have little to no soldering experience leave it to someone with experience and you won't have to sweat anything.

Do i have to update the wiikey as soon as i get it installed? Or will it work just fine? I already hove a couple of games like Mario Party 8 , Mariokart wii , and like two more games. Ill post back when i get the wiikey install , i've gotten a few good reviews but i'm still a little freaked-out about this but i'm going for it!!!!

I updated mine with the config disk before I put anything in. You can download the config iso from wiikeys website. It's cake to do the install. I can't speak from Mario Party or Mario Kart, but backups of Wii Music, and Shaun White Snowboarding work fine and those two games are pretty new.

i think ppl need to say what wiikey they have either wiikey v1 or v2

i have v2 and i got 3.4e firmware and mario kart and mario party 8 works great, the new firmware blocks the regionfrii software and also the homebrew stuff put on b4 this update, but the wiikey 2v has some good features the one i like is

Advanced automatic region detection with fallback (works even if a drive is changed to a different region Wii) and
Direct Boot of Gamecube original, import, and backup games

so update guys and make life easy

JRICKY if you used regionfrii on your old games m8 i dont think they ill work but just burn them only useing wiibrickblocker m8 and alls good

i put mario kart through regionfrii and wiibrickblocker and it didnt work until i read somewhere on here that the new firmware 3.4e blocks a part of regionfrii so i reburnt it with wiibrickblocker only and it worked gr8

you may need the original file to do this because as soon as you use regionfrii its no good, its ok to leave the game as USA just as long as you wiibrickblock it, i had no problems

Well igot my wiikey 2 installed and when i turned on the wii nothing happened. The console wont read any games not even original games. The dvd drive didn't want to spin then it started spinning but i keep getting an error , just says error please eject disc and see your manual for trobble shotting. I dont know if this is a bad insstall or dvd drive got f*&$ed up. I brought it back to the person that installed it so he can work on it , i hope i get good news friday at least my wii working again with the original games.
