If you update to 3.4 I believe that nintendo now has the right to update your wii without informing you. I wouldn't do it.

Tested both Wiikey 1.9 and Wiikey II with 3.4U. No issues with backups loading. I think this update was more aimed at homebrew but im just speculating on that.

I think your right. Since modchip are a hardware issue, maybe it can't be impaired by a software update.

Where did you hear that? Wiibrew doesn't say anything about it. Still though, I wouldn't update just yet either.

Wiibrew states the new Wii Network Service Privacy Policy Update reads...

Quote:
We may without notifying you, download updates, patches, upgrades and similar software to your Wii Console and may disable unauthorized or illegal software placed on your Wii Console to ensure that your Wii Console is operating properly and efficiently, comply with applicable laws, assist law enforcement, protect us and our customers, or prevent the use and distribution of software obtained through improper channels
The link is HERE and the new policy is at the bottom of the page.

Oh wow, I missed that part... That really sucks. 3.4 is defiantly something to avoid.

Ive been trying to do some research on this, and what if I turn off Wii connect? That should prevent Nintendo from reading or downloading anything onto my Wii without my knowledge, correct?

I have an original Wii with a Wiikey chip installed, currently my Wii is at 3.3U and the Wiikey is running 1.9s.
