Will watching DVDs wear out Wii laser?

I have a simple question.

If I use the MFE Media Player off the WiiKey's Config Disc to play dvds, will it wear out the Wii laser?

Anytime the laser is ON it effectively causing "wear".

So, the answer to your question is yes.

Wii games do not require full time use of the laser, so it causes less "wear" on the laser.

another question i have concerning the wii laser is how you set the wiikey. people say that if u set it to DVD+R it will make the laser sound really loud and will wear it out more while DVD-R does not.

My wii makes a loud sound when loading a game except this happened before i got my wii chipped with a wiikey. if that is true (DVD+R wears out wii laser more) how do u set your wiikey to DVD-R?

i have a combination of the types of DVDs i use. about 4 are DVD+r while the rest are DVD-R

Theres no option to switch it. You just use +R's or -R's. I can confirm that a wiikey modded wii does have a much louder drive than an unmodded one, but from what I can tell from my games burned on a variety of media theres very little, if any, difference in the sound regardless of the disks you're using.
