I read in a few posts that you would be able to rip a game to disk with the new update. Does this mean that you have to purchase the game online or can you rip the actual disk to the hdd? I cant seem to find a way to do it.

you rip the game yourself.

go to my xbox, then game library. you'll see the game in the list. choose it, and it'll have the option to install to the hard drive.

you still need the game in the drive, in order to run the game from the hard drive.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

oh crap, i just noticed that you said you have to have the game in the drive in order to run from the hard drive, so what is the benifit of doing that in the first place?

it's microsoft's way to verify you own the game. most people would just rent games and rip them to their hard drive.

externals can't be used to store games. only way to get more space is to buy the 120gig, or do a 120gig swap.

the swap is rather extensive to do, and can only be done with a certain western digital hard drive: the WD1200BEVS. it is the cheaper route; even world renowned pc world has a guide.

a little bit faster load times, less stress on the console so less overheating.

not to mention, way more quieter, and preserves the game disc during extreme gaming hours.

people that have talismoon whisper fans will get near silence, and a better cooled system.

think about it; if there was no verification, everyone could just rent the game, rip it, and return it.
