I was just considering a psp, but i wasn't sure on which generation psp to get. I know the 1st gen is easier to hack since it doesn't require a PBP. My question is,
Can the psp 2000 handle bigger games or run smoother emulation than the psp 1000, or are they the exact same thing? (Especially for psx roms)
Does anyone have any pros or cons?
If you can give me a recommendation on which one to buy that would be appreciated.
Get one of the 2k slims. They're awesome (IMO). Just be wary of the notorious TA088v3 mother boards that are, as of this post, unhackable.
(Datel claims their new battery can get into service mode, but as of now it's nothing more then a claim with no proof to back it)
As far as ease of hacking it, the slims are a little harder but very far from impossible. I just did my 5th psp hack today and it took me 20 min (and that was with me having a problem with my pc that wouldn't let me make a magic mem stick).
Cool thanks alot, just two things. Does the slim 2000 have better gameplay on psx roms, or is it the exact same thing as the old one?
And, how do i know which psp has the TA088v3 motherboard? (In other words, were the later 2000's released with it, or the earlier 2000's)
Don't quote me on this. Going off what i remember...
Slim and phat should perform roughly the same. It's all the same firmware running it. You can always google the psp slim and see what the ups and downs are from the phats. If memory serves, the psp's slim batteries obviously store less charge but the slims also use less energy. So it should balance out a bit. And being the slim is the new version of the phat, most everything in it SHOULD (key word) be equal or more advanced then it's phat counterpart.
As far as finding out if it's a 088v3, i haz no good guide for ya on that. I would suggest using the AD forums and just looking for "TA 088 v3".
What I can tell you is that if you can find one of those preboxed sets like god of war, star wars battlefront, or daxter, they should be pre-TA088v3 (and they look cooler IMO).
My pleasure man. Wish ya the best of luck on your purchase and future hacking/modding of it. :)
(PS, keep an eye out for "GLiTCH's Ultimate Guide to Installing & Updating Custom Firmware". It's a work in progress and should be done within the next week or so. In short, it's easy mode for people to understand how to hack a psp)
