Can anyone let me know if the LiteOn drives are in all the new 360 models or are the Benq drives still in the Elite models now?
Just wondering what model to go for for ease of flashing.
Thanks in advance.

they are pretty much in all the new models. Check 360drives.com
It's a database which you can try to use lot numbers to best guess the drive you would get in a console.

yeah. Unless you can find the earlier lot numbers, you're pretty much guaranteed one unfortunately.

If you go to any retail store, your 99% screwed. There's good deals all over the place on new pre-mods if you want to go that route for around the price you will be looking to spend. Sell.com has a few solid sellers that I've done business with in the past.

The Lite-on drive can't be flashed. The keys can read and that's not a simple process and they you have to buy another drive. Solder and/or specials tools will be required. Your best bet is to buy a new one online with a flashable drive, but new enough for to be a falcon.

Got an elite today and it has a LiteOn. Ordering Team Xecuters V3 connection tool and going to spoof my old Hitachi drive to put in it and go with that.

Yea it's insane at the amounts of Lite-On's that are in the retail channel already. I went to GameStop and bought a Arcade and whadya know, a Lite-On! So I took it back, bought a used one, and whadya know a Lite-On. Took that back and asked for a Core model, NOT Arcade and BAM, a Hitachi 78fk drive. So now I'm back in business. So to be honest if you're gonna buy a drive, I'd go to GameStop and ask for a used Core model, carefully open it up and if not return for another. That worked for me. But my other 360 is a Lite-On, I'm gonna keep it though :(

I found a HALO version on the net, got a Hitachi 79fl drive. and flashed it myself. I say you go out and buy a used one, a year old one!

Hey, guys. I've been trying to read up and I think I'm getting the hang of modded xBoxes (brand newbie here). I've read that my best bet is to buy one that was manufactured PRE MAY 2008 otherwise I'll get a Lite-On Drive - and basically can't mod. Is that right? I'm guessing there may be something in the works down the road, but any help would be great. I'm hoping to pick one up at Blockbuster here in Canada over the next few weeks.
