Game prices will be falling because of this recession, in the supermarkets here in England i've grabbed LOADS of bargains e.g. LBP, PES 2009, COD5 all £25 each :D :D :D

Fat PSP: 3.03 oe-c (will update when i have time :P)

I was browsing the game sectoin in Best Buy this past weekend. Just looking at what PS3 titles they have. I would never buy from them unless I had a $10-off coupon and little-to-no patience to wait for a reasonable used price on Amazon. About 5 parents came into the isle looking for a game for their kid. After finding the game, each couple exclaimed aloud "$60?!?!" The returned the game to the shelf and they all said (in different variations), something like this - "No way I'm paying $60 for a video game, let's get him something else." Smart people.

Yeah I agree. What we need to do is just stop buying games until the price goes down. It's one thing to say that we want cheaper games, but when the distributors see record profits, what is the incentive to lower the price?

I'm guilty of buying 2 PS3 games at full price, despite how it makes me cringe to see a $64 bill. I'm over with it though. I don't care how bad I want to try it out, no more new games for me. There are enough older ones floating around now pretty cheap that I can get for half the price or less used.

I don't know...it sounds simple to me. Price the games at twice the price and half the people will buy it. Price it at half the price and twice the people (or more) will buy it. Just seems like at twice the price, a lot more than half the people are shelling out the cash. If my kids ask me for 6 $30 games through the course of a year, I would probably get them all new. If they asked me for 6 $60 games throughout the course of a year, I may get only 2, possibly 3.

Although a wonderful thing, it's the used game market that is doing this. If they price the game at $30, they are going to go for $15 - $20 used. And when all is said and done, I will always go for the cheaper alternative. Especially in this economy. What they are banking on is tha most kids can't wait to spend their allowances or beg their parents for new releases. Gaming this gen is 10x more social, so if Johnny has GTA or Madden 09, then his friend just has to have it. It just makes sense for the industry to set the bar high so that they can milk the piggy banks of impatient adolescents from the start.

Well, it also has to do with the developers themselves having to fork out more money to increase the quality of their games. MGS4 comes to mind. I'd say that for such a high-quality game as that, a $60 price tag would seem reasonable.

...or do developers not profit directly from their game sales? Am I just completely dumbfounded on the economic politics of video game making (which is very possible)?

I think games are too cheap.. They should all be £100+ each for the 3 or 4 hours you get before they get old and boring... Teach people to spend their money on worthwhile things like heroin or 9mm ammo.

I'm not sure how seriously the industry would take a survey that is called GAMEPRIC.

Which is one of the many many reasons why the online petitions accomplish nothing more than making people feel they have actually accomplished something.

deal with it. If you dont wanna pay don't buy. I personally don't have a problem with it. These prices arn't bad. The gaming industry wouldnt want there prices too high to the point where people wouldnt buy. A bluray cost like what $35? For something that is interactive and way more replay value i think $60 is not asking too much.

I don't find them expensive. Course after living in Japan for 2 years and buying their games for $80+, $50-$60 is nothing.

i think the quality of the games has, is, and will be changing for the better and the relative price of the games hasnt.
I remember buying Super Mario Brothers 3 (release date back in the day) for $89.99CDN plus tax!!! I was in elementary at that time, and i cant even begin to imagine the amount of leaves i had to rake to finally save up for it!!

I really do think the prices for games are reasonable considering the amount of return you get from them compared to back in the day (yes, i AM a dinosaur)

Take MGS 4 for example...
You get a top notch game with so much going on that lasts well over 20+ hours in just the first playthrough (novice games)
Not to mention the replay value and variety of game styles at your disposal. (just try getting the Big Boss Emblem...i swear to God it's impossible)
Also, have you heard the soundtrack and the voice acting? Top notch!
If it was $100 bucks id still pay for it!

On the other hand, theyre gonna have to pay me to play Need for Speed Undercover again!
