.vob files supported for play back?

I want to start playing my movies through my xbox, so I have been converting all my dvds into avi but it is very time consuming. So I was wondering if xbox supports just .vob files? This way I can eliminate converting to avi and just rip my movies to my hard drive.

Also one other quick question. I have streamed movies to my xbox using media extender which works fine, but I was thinking about formatting a large HD to FAT32 and then connecting it the xbox via usb. Has anyone tried this or know if it works?

I'm having same/similar issue, trying to play HD movies on my xbox 360 I've tried a few "rippers" out there to convert VOB files to AVI and after several "long" (1-2 hour) conversions they are failing.

Is there a guide / tutorial somewhere?
