can anyone confirm that it is infact "heavy" loads on the COD5 servers and not my settings? i cant accept invites and/or my friends cant accept mine, after every online game it says "server connection timed out" but im still in the room with the same ppl and able to carry on playing, and also the leaderboards for kills, score etc are taking forever to load, is anyone else getting this or is it just me? im going crazy, lol.
all my settings are still the same as what i had for COD4 and i never had any issues with that it worked perfectly.

Not for me. I do get a server time out error message after every match which is odd. Even though I get a server time out error message, everyone is till in the lobby.

I always get the server time out message, I heard that was just something weird that they did when they made the game, like how after a CoD4 patch, if the host had a bad connection, everyone would return to the lobby and not get booted from the party. Today I couldn't load up any leaderboards but it could just be server maintenance for today. It's been working for me everyday until now so I wouldn't worry.

i get the time out message sometimes too, but i think the invite thing either has to do with your invite restrictions (setting option for party invite: only/no one allowed) or your rank. I had trouble getting everyone in my group together till they were either at or around my level or past level 8. since there is that whole boot camp team deathmatch thing. At that time my friend had to invite someone with a low/new rank and then join or invite me to their party. hope that helps

^_^ lol We mean world at war, you're right. and to captain:
are you connected wireless or wired? Don't worry about port options for now SONY hasn't release a firmware that allows port forwarding.
Is your ps3 setup for a static or dynamic ip address.
If wireless:
-try having the ps3 in the same room as the router(i have 3 so i stay connected, but am also connected wired{faster}for such occasions)
-wireless standards on ps3 are b/g so you get that 54mbps limit, Ethernet is stronger and better.
-also make sure to encrypt the router with a WEP key (16bit is fine). Not necessary but it helps keep the people using your connection to a minimum.

I will also assume that you know how to setup a static address since you know about opening ports. Try setting things up static, it'll reduce the time it takes for the ps3 to acquire an ip address. (and turn off UPnP on both the router and the ps3.

Post back and let me know how it works out.
Oh and while they don't have a firmware for the ps3 with port forwarding, some games allow you to do so like metal gear solid 4, and other call of duties. I don't specifically know the port for W.A.W though, google it, i'll do the same

UPDATE
i should of said what i was using eh? lol
im running a wired connection, i did also forget to mention that all my other online games work fine, its just COD5, ive been round to my friends houses to see how COD5 is doing for them online, and its exactly the same, the "server timed out" message, the blank after action report and unable to connect to friends but can still play the game.
i made a static to see if it would be any better, nope, still exactly the same, however, im noticing a huge difference with fifa09, working brill, lol
i googled the port numbers for COD5 and i got the same as what i mentioned earlier in the thread.
im glad i started the thread, i know that it cant be my settings and now know that it must be the actual game, so come on treyarch sort COD5 out, i want to play with my mates! lol

Good find! I haven't been on in a few weeks because i had to send in my ps3 but it comes back tomorrow so i will see if its like that for everyone. I have had the game mess up on me as far as rank and experience goes{when i went back online with it my rank was lower than what i left it at. it was the same as two days before my new level} That made me a bit mad. Somehow i ended up overcompleting the same challenge down but not out (5/1 ?) But other than that everyone in my circle has the same server timeout message after each game. Though our AAreport has data on it. Also try either hosting a game to see how stable you connection is, if everyone is lagging and freezing there might still be a problem on your end. But i still wouldn't put it past treyarch, their customer service line suck.

Simply put the COD5 Servers are getting swamped at peak hours (+65-70k players).

The connection error message happens to everyone, but the worst case is the person that acted as the server during the previous match, there is a good chance that his ps3 will crash/freeze after the round as the server tries to reconnect with all the players.

During these time most people get the connection error message, some times you reconnect for a time but the lobby quites after time has passed; those cases are when the person acting as the server has crashed, is therefore unable to release the session and causes the server migration to fail.

Simply put the COD5 servers are having problems managing session connections, losing who is/was connected to who, and is unable to provide the information to the person acting as the server in time, causing him to lag/freeze in waiting. (and killing the session to everyone else)

No official confirmation on this, but it something i have seen happen in the past on MMO server sides..

Breaking news! i was having the friend connection problem with some new friends, and it has occurred to me....we have routers! All my friends who have routers i told them to connect their ps3 directly to their modems so we could play. and it worked! no more unable to join session error. If you don't want to direct connect then you must configure your router properly. like me ^__^. I setup my friends ps3 when he got it so that explained why i never had any connect errors with him, and router or not he was able to connect to everyone. Two of my friends never did a custom setup on their routers so everything was default, and there might be a few settings that blocks incoming connections. Try this method captain, and let me know if it works for you on at least one of your problems.

ah yes, i already knew that method would work, i have a few friends that dont have pc's, only there ps3's, direct to there router, and never have had problems like i have had, things are alot better for me at the minute, i can connect to friends and vice versa, i noticed that when the volume of people is low, eg 20.000 - 30.000 things are fine, even tho i still get a blank after action report (which really annoys me, i loved it when it worked, for the first few hours, lol) and server connection timed out message (again very annoying) but when the volume of people rises 70k plus everything is just a pain in the ass, so i play something else.
i just like things to run smooth, i think to myself that if they bring games out that are popular then they should be prepared to have everything running smoothly, or at least let us know when things arent going to run smoothly, like fixing GLITCHING! but thats a different thread on a different page somewhere else. rant over, lol

P.S THANKS for all the help and info guys :)
