As per usual I thought I would be smart and fiddle with something I know little about. since the new xbox update, my 20 gig hard drive doesnt cut it. After all, installing one game and its full, no thanks.. So I found a 160gb SATA drive around the house and decided that my weekend project would be to get that to work in the 360. 4 Days later and nearly 18 hours a day googling, I am still no closer. However, in the midst of all the fiddling, my original xbox HD seems to not work.
I first removed the original HD and connected it to my PC and used xplorer360 to backup my data.
I then spend ages trying to get my computer to recognise my other SATA hd in DOS so I could copy some firmware on it to make my xbox think it was a genuine Microsoft HD. Nothing I tried recognised the HD. I tried the original and that didnt recognise either.
I spend days trying to find a boot disk which would give me access to my SATA drive, (much harder than you would think) and still allow this .com programme to access the firmware.
Now heres the problem, when I plugged my original HD back into my xbox after I gave up wasting my life, it doesnt show up. the 360 says there is no storage device installed!
Does anyone have any advice on either getting my large HD to work with it, or getting my old one to?
well you should probably have done some research on this before you wasted your HD. had you dont this research you would have found out that there is only a few sata drives that will work for this modification. so perhaps you should google 'xbox 360 hard drive mod' and see what it comes up with.
I'm fully aware I made a stupid mistake.
I will get a 120 hard drive next month, proper one. However, how to I get my savegames from my old one to the new one?
I can access the old HD fine in xplorer360. Do I just copy all the files over to the new HD by connecting that also?
