WEll I think its not what you're lookng for but how much you want to spend. So if you have the money to buy an expensve Sony HDTV then i'd say go ahead, if you want to save some money, a Samsung or any other good brand would do just as well. The picture quality will be almost the same, you'd have to have extreamly good eyes and know what you are looking for to tell the difference between most HDTVs these days.

Also are you in the UK or somewhere else? If in the UK then you might want to get one with Freesat HD built-in, though you'll need a satellite disk as well, ok if you have a Sky one. If not you can just get the Sky trial for £75 from Currys, you get 4 sky channels for 3 months and they install the disk for free! you can cancel and then keep the dish!

sony is the premium brand as they buy the best bits in but it reflects in the price, other brands like Toshiba develop there own parts that keeps prices down!
i have always had Tosh and never had a problem, good specs and good value for money!
The 32xv505 is a good 1080p screen. The 32wlt68 is 2 years old but a 100hrz screen which is good but does have a low contrast compared to newer sets!!
I hear a lot of mixed reports about samsung. They are the most popular brand for lcd in most sizes at the moment but i know they dont always have the best reports on pic quality and sound?

i have 2 samsung lcd tv's and i compared them both to the sony's before i bought them and i noticed that the samsung's have a greater picture quality. As for sound i'm not quite sure because i've never used the sound system it came with.

I recently bought PS3 and LG HDTV (42"). The quality of the games is great via HDMI cable. Also, I have been DivX, Xvid movies via HDMI. The output is awesome. You can go ahead with LG. Sony and Samsung are 'nice to have' but you hardly detect the difference in output.

WEll between 720 and 1080 there obviously will be a difference, you probably wont see it unless you have 2 TVs right next to each other and are pretty close to them.

Between 1080i and 1080p you probably wont see any difference at all, though 1080p is said to be better.

1080i is garbage, dont use it it is essentially 540p stretched. So yes you will notice a large diffrence between 1080i and 1080p or 720p for that matter. Especially in games with alot of movement.

Interlaced being image cut into strips and each strip is refreshed, whilst progressive the image is whole?

My bad I misunderstood it but the fact stands that 1080i is garbage compared to 720p

This is a good video on the differences and why 720p is better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-JXfyvlPh0&feature=rec-fresh

Yup good choice, now it's just deciding which TV again :P

Also who changed my post (2nd one above this)? Dont see any reason as to why a mod would do that...

You mean like this with the message saying this post has been edited like the one below? But then why has my post, which you quoted in your post after it look so different? Looks to me either a mod changed it of the forum is a bit bugged :D

Sony's Scam. I decided to buy the sony 32S400 i went online to the Sony website i saw it displays 1080p , when i went to the store to get it the Salesman (who I thank) told me that although they write that on the website but the s series 32" is only "capable" of displaying 1080p which is not really true . and he showed me the difference between both the S and the W series 32" which displays 1080p . And beleive me the difference was noticeable in a screen of 32" only.
Should Sony write such a thing on their website ???

I would probably buy the W now.
I already got the LG2630r which is a great screen .

Its a very odd screen, usually that resolution is 1080i capable not 1080p. But if you look at the resolution of the monitor in the specs:
Quote:
W/1080p Capability. And BRAVIA Sync. 1366x768 (720p)
Its plain to see that it isnt a true 1080 display. I've never seen that before though.
