Ok,a few nights ago my XBOX quit reading everything. So after I call 1-800-4MY-XBOX they told me my warranty was out in Feb this year. So I took it apart cleaned the lens and the drive wheel and everything worked. Now it quit working today,I tried adjusting the pots and it didn't help. My question is should I just replace the laser or the drive? I know when replacing the drive you need the key for your old drive, which I don't have my firmware is original. And could any of you tell me the best place to find a laser or drive. I saw a laser on e-bay which ships from Hong Kong but I wasn't wanting to get one in a couple of days. Thanks ahead.
Well some people tell Microsoft that it RROD on them to get a free fixed console, that way they'll honor the 3-year warranty. Never tell Microsoft the truth..they don't tell you the truth unless they're caught (EX. the RROD issue)
Some people may say that's wrong but we all need to acknowledge that all these drive and hardware problems aren't consumer error, it's company (Microsoft) selling cheap faulty hardware error. I laugh when people acutally call them to be honest, honest consumers always get screwed in the end.
I thought Microsoft could check to see if your console red ring'd,that was what I read somewhere. You are right about the faulty equipment, but if I replace the laser for 20.00 or so then I could also do other mods to the console, like replacing fans and such so MAYBE it won't mess up again. (at least for awhile)

LOL, so silly, Microsoft doesn't check a darn thing. That's why they always send people refurb units and not their original. Even if it doesn't exhibit the RROD when they get it, they're still gonna replace it because as you know the RROD will sometimes go away and then come back for a final fatality of the system. The only thing they probably would check is if the warranty sticker has been tampered with. Other than that they'd pretty much send a different console to you. They're gonna accept your word regardless if you say it's doing a RROD. Do you really think they're gonna say..well no problem here lemme send it back so it can be another call back to us about the same thing. I've done it already, your choice though.
