Does anyone know where the Wii's internal memory is located. I know it is not on the drive so it must be connected to the mother board.

I was thinking of sending my Wii in for Warranty Service but want to clear out the memory on it such as the homebrew channel and VC games but can't format it because the console has crashed and won't load.

Would leaving out the internal battery eventually wipe the internal memory's storage. If so how long would the battery have to be left out for?

The wii's internal memory is a couple flash chips attached to the motherboard. They cant be removed without destroying them and the motherboard as well.

As flash it would eventually degrade if left without power from the internal battery... But that would take at least 10 years, probably longer.

Nintendo has so far shown almost no interest in modded consoles. They'll even service and repair wii's with modchips installed. You should be fine letting them service it and, from reading your other thread, that seems like your best bet. My guess is a power surge fried something. It sucks but it happens.
