I fried my MS25 drive while trying to fix drive problems I was having and got an MS28 drive to replace it. I have a copy of the original firmware from the ms25 but what are the procedures for installing the ms28? Do I just install it and then flash with the original FW and then how do I flash the iextreme 1.4 fw again?

I am also interested in this. I only have an MS28, I read through textooks guide and he says I've either gotta have a VIA chipset (which I don't) or desolder a resistor or something

Is this for the dumping or for the updating part or both?

I don't have the skills to be desoldering anything and trying to keep it hooked to power.

I have the MS28 version, but it is brand new and is supposed to have no firmware on it, so says the guy I bought it from. But this was before I knew there would be so many problems flashing it. Is the difficulty in the dumping or putting the firmware back on it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I looked but am unable to locate an MS25 drive and the Hitachi one likes 10x's harder.

ok guys best option is by a via6421 pci card use mtk flash forget the soldering but before flashing it you need to open your firmware with firmware toolbox and go to tools and spoof firmware to ms28 then use this to flash on to the ms28 you'll be fine your struggling google spoofing firmware you should find a tut or reply and ill help you out

I already have the VIA chip set SATA controller that I used to flash the ms25 but now I want to replace the fried drive with the new ms28 that I bought. Can you give me the step by step instructions for it? I have the copy of the original FW from the ms25 and I tried looking up tuts but most of em are using the controller board swapping technique which I probably can't use since the drive was fried.

Thanks.

Just do a google search or look in one of the guides here for Textbooks 2008 version of the flashing for dummies PDF. It gives step by step directions for the 28.

So I just put the drive in and flash with the old firmware from the original drive? What if I want to flash iextreme 1.4 on it, do I do that after I flash the original?
