I'd like to know if someone can help me troubleshoot my Wii with some tips on where to start. I bought it with the wiikey installed and a bunch of backup games which all work fine. I did not try to use any original wii games until a few days ago. It doesn't read them. I also tried a gamecube sb melee original and it works fine. I have also tried burning a 1.3 wiikey boot 1.3 which it doesn't read. Also burned wiikey config upgrade 1.9s which it doesn't read. Still the backup games work fine. Did anyone have the same problem and fixed it?
Thanks!

Was also considering changing the old wiikey to wiikey2 but what is the major difference when ordering soldered or unsoldered? And what is that wiiclip used for?
Thanks!

I can help you with this one. Solderless is a great alternative to modding a wii without having to actually alter the board in any form or fashion. The chip will come to you attached to the clip you asked about. And it sits down onto the chip on the wii drive. Inside the clip it has these pins that'll make sontact with the correct legs of the chip. Now honestly a soldered chip is much better because it doesn't run as much risk of coming off the board during transport or while moving the system around. The clip does work nicely and is snug but that doesn't minimize the % of it actually falling off. Soldering the chips arent that big of deal but some people don't feel up to the task of doing it themselves and search for someone who has the skill to do it.

Now as for your wiikey on your system. re you 100% positive that its a wiikey? The only way you can be 100% sure is to open it up and look at it. It is in fact modded since you're playing backups. What I would do is remove the mod chip and see if it'll play originals again. You could have a faulty chip.

Tex,
I appreciate your feedback! I do want to open it up to check if it is really a wiikey. Is the tri-wing screwdriver really necessary to open it up? Or can normal small phillips screwdrivers work?

use the tri-wing or run the risk of stripping the screws and using a dremel tool to drill out the reamining part of the screw. Trust me it'll save you alot of headache and nerves to just use the triwing. It wasn't great for my mental stability when I had to take a dremel bit to the screw while it as still attached to my system, and it was the main cover screw not panel screws. Some people will say ohh a small precision flat head will work... screw that (no pun intended). Get the tri-ing

Tex,
Ok, got ya! I will get the tri-wing first before cracking it open.
Thanks so much!
