I've heard that Memorex's DVD+R DLs are not the best DVD+R DLs around, but as long as they work properly I am happy.

Should I buy them or should stay away from them?

PS: They have them at Best Buy.

My humble opinion would be to stick with Verbatim for DL discs.

They have Verbatims (made in Singapore) at Best Buy. They were $40 for a 20 pack.

I mean, what's the worst that could happen with these Memorex's besides $10 worth of coasters?

Will my Xbox 360 be able to read them?

You could end up with coasters. Or it could seemingly burn successfully then not play properly, or it could burn sucessfully then become unplayable after a short amount of time. All are possibilites with the lower end quality media. I think some of those code out as RITEK which aren't too bad, but the Verbatims are more reliable.

It would suck if I burn the backups and then all of a sudden the discs stop working :(

Oh well, the discs were $10. If I get more than 1 coaster I'll just keep the discs for data backup purposes only.

My worst media experiences have always been with Memorex! I'd avoid this brand at all costs.

my best bet would have been to get the $25 20 Pack Verbatim spindle from newegg, but it's too late now.

If I burn at 2.4 X and make sure that no programs are running in the background, I think I should be ok.

The point made about the Disc's Core is a Good One...
I have found that the label on the outside is nearly meaningless...
I have found Maxells with Philips Core
Philips with CMC Magnetics, Ritek and Sony Cores
Sonys with Ritek Cores...

Of all the Cores, I have found Philips to be the all round winner for +R, -R, +RW and -RW with Very Good portability...

Discs with this core tend to be sold singularly or packs no greater than 3.

The Ritek Core is a good compromise... Holds data well... Seam to be strongest on +R with CMC Magnetics or Fuji quite stable for -R
Discs labeled 'Philips +R' or 'Philips +RW' are often Ritek and 'Philips -R' often Fuji.

The only core to be considered Poor would be Sony...
The only core to fail All the tough portability tests!

I had bought some Memorex DL awhile back. First 5 burn attempts failed. I would not recommend Memorex for DL disks. They might burn fine initially, but you may have higher chance of poor playback.
