I quite recently had my sons Phat PSP modded to 3.90 M33 custom firmware and it has been brilliant! So good that I've now bought my daughter one for Xmas along with a Pandoras battery and MMS, to prepare it for her. However, very recently, my son seems to have innadvertantly changed his firmware to version 4.05, which I'm beginning to realise ain't cfw anymore! He has no recollection of downloading any further mods.
Is it likely that, in ignorance, he has been converted back to ofw via the internet or via a hidden file on a game disk? I'd like to be aware of this boobytrap, if its the case, to avoid constant downgrading / modding.
If I mod to cfw again, will I loose the wireless internet files?

I'm sorry about this situation happening to you son!
Yes, when you use a Pandora Battery, it does make you lose the wireless internet files that you have manually entered. But, don't worry about the other files such as, GAME, MUSIC, PICTURES, VIDEO, and etc.
P.S.
If your son has any CFW higher than 3.71 M33; DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. SHUTDOWN PSP
2. TURN ON PSP and PRESS and HOLD R shoulder at the same time.
3. GO TO CONFIGURATION
4. GO TO (USE M33 network update) and ENABLE IT
Quote: This will make it when you son hits system Update, it will update to the newest CFW not the Sony offical firmware.
I hope this given information helps you and your son fix you PSP.

Your advice is much appreciated. It sounds like it will prevent further fallbacks.
I guess I could drag and drop the internet files on my pc via USB and then reload them? Does that sound feasible?
By the way, with the current FW which I'm assuming is official. starting the PSP whilst holding down the R shoulder, has no effect whatsoever. Is this an invalid opperation until CFW is loaded?
Thanks again.

Yes, this operation is only available for any PSP that has CFW loaded on it.

Hey there Venom,
AlthoughI've now successfully loaded 3.80 M33-5 CFW (on two PSP's)..
Holding down the right shoulder button while powering up doe not bring me to "configuration" mode on either unit. In fact, I can't find "configuration" at all. Am I missing something?
Thanks

Make sure you are cold booting and not booting from sleep mode! Or you could try upgrading to 5.00m33-3 using this http://www.mediafire.com/?nnjzwytzmqm and seeing if it works then, just download it and put the recovery folder in your Game folder not the iso folder and run it like you would a normal game and flash to which firmare you want, it could be the firmware you are flashing!

If I'm using the right side slider power on button, that's cold booting...right? and if I slide that button up again, that's completely of?
If so, this has no effect with the right shoulder button held down, whatsoever, on either unit.
Ive upgraded one unit to M33 4.01 to see if that made a difference, but no difference.
Do you still reckon I need to upgrade even further just to get into "configuration" ?
Any explaination why?
Cheers

Hold the right side power button up for about 6 seconds or until the psp turns off, When you turn it back on the psp should start up with Sony logo, this is known as a coldboot, while doing this hold the right shoulder button, if recovery menu still doesnt come up then i would upgrade, but if all you want to do is to enable the m33 update in recovery so your son cant up date to ofw again its your choice, just hope he doesnt, also i'm not saying the upgrade will work but maybe the firmware you are installing is corrupt in some way, just an idea! You could also try adding the 2nd update for this firmware and see if that works, dl it from here http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=7675

Fantastic. 6 seconds with the off slider switch held is the key. I was unaware that simply sliding the switch momentarily was not a complete shutdown. Consequently, I've now managed to access "configuration" only to find that M33 update was enabled anyway by default.. lol.
I guess you're all striking yr foreheads with the palm of your hands and looking to the heavens.
Ah well, I may be a 45yr old nube, but I still know more about the capabilities of the PSP than my two adolescent kids....thanks to you guys.
Cheers
