Hi

I have flashed about 10 'Elites'. So yes it can be done. The latest one i bought for my self about a week ago and it had a BENQ drive in it which is one of the ones which can be flashed. So i would say it depends what drive is in it but all the 'Elites' i have done have so far been fine and all had the same BENQ drive in them

If you don't know about the types of drives you will need 'Textbook's Guide 2008' which not only gives you an extensive guide as to how to do the flashing but shows you pictures of the three types of drive you could find inside 360's inc 'Elite'

Can't help u on other part of your question

Hope it helps

All, well most but pretty much all of them can be flashed. However before flashing anything or attempting it. You need to know which drive you have. You either have BenQ,Samsung,Hitachi.

But in the end you will be thankful because I am saving money by doing what I do.

thx for the replies... i bought the elite today for my 3 year old... i am now having second thoughts about changing the firmware because my teenage son got a xbox premium and i got that flashed or whatever it's called and then 2 months into his year online live he got banned from live (we think coz his box was flashed)so don't want to get another ban with this new xbox... unless there's a way to go on live with a flashed box and not get a ban..

so the main thing i am needing to know is and IF i can.. how do i put avi files onto the hard drive... lol he loves his nemo and monsters inc.. it will be much easier having them all on a hard drive..

thanks in advance for any help

The newer firmware is stealth pathced. I am sorry but I find it pretty pointless to buy a Three year old a Xbox 360 Elite.

I do not have to be asked to give my opinion. If I want to say something I will say it.

Yes it is pointless got a 3 YEAR OLD! to play video games.

That is like teaching sexed to kindergartners.

Guys lets quit the in house fighting !!!

Mandy.... There is no sure way to stop yourself from getting banned. I myself got banned on 12th November. I then decided to go out and by a replacement (Bought an Elite as was best deal by far) and was quite reluctant to 'Flash' as it's not set in stone as to why or what makes M$ catch you out.

The majority view is that it is a bunch of games leaked onto the web which doesn't have the correct combinations of stealth that an original retail copy of the game does. Also people have been playing these games before the retail date.

I personally fell into that trap with several of the latest released games and on checking through my collection of games there were at least 15 of them which i needed to reburn as they failed the Stealth combination checks.

So it as always is a risk to play copied games online.
Personally it is worth having a 'Flashed' 360 for offline use and (Example 'Elite') second console fully legit for online use then problem solved.

That's the way i'm rolling now.

Hope it helps.

hi and thx for the info... was helpful :) well as i said it was my teen son that had a flashed xbox and the new elite i got for my little boy coz he wouldn't leave his big brother alone (always wanted to go into his room on the xbox lol) so now they both have one... funny thing is whats the older lad do when we got the new one... go straight on it haha... don't think i will get it flashed now, at least then my eldest can go online on that one...

don't suppose you know if i can put movie files on the hard drive by any chance??? it would make it so much easier having all his movies on it for him... he does scratch the dvds all the time...

thank again

I do not think you can put a movie on the HD unless you bought it in the marketplace. However if you connect online, When NXE came out they have this new option to rip discs to the HD.

no you can't store them on the HDD, you could buy them off the marketplace but i'm not sure how long the licenses for those last, otherwise you could store them on a thumb drive or on a usb hard drive and connect those via a usb port (front or back) and access the avi divx from those, that's probably your best option.

there your questions been answered.

I am new to all things xbox 360 but a few weeks ago i purchased an Elite with the intention of keeping it unmodded. I applied the NXE update and eventually got around to playing a few mp3 and avi files on the 360 via Windows Media Player 11 (an update or two needed downloading from xbox live for the avi's to play). I tested only a couple avi's as i'm very wary of Microsoft snooping on what i'm playing, and i'd managed to avoid using Windows Media Player for many years for the exact same reason. (Not amused that streaming required WMP 11 but hey).

Anyways, i do all my music and movie watching via the awesome XBMC on the old type xboxes and will continue to do so due to my comments above.

My kids were introduced to computers at a very young age (which has served them very well indeed) and various games consoles also. However in my opinion an old type xbox is more suited to a 3year old, they're far cheaper, say £15, i usually pay a maximum of £30 or £40. Modding them is childs play (literally), very cheap and you can put quite large hard drives in them and they will play virtually everything except HiDef content, and are far safer than having to use spyware-ridden Windows Media Player and an expensive xbox 360. Plus the old xboxes are very well made indeed, a 3yr old can bash it about and it'll happily take quite a bit of abuse.
Backup games can also be played on them and installed to the hard drive.

That's my opinion for a 3yr old anyways.

p.s. regarding NXE, the ability to install games to the hard drive is great, as i say i won't be modding mine, and i'm happy enough popping the original game disc in whenever i or the kids want to play a game.

maybe (in time) movie files will be able to be put on.. but i'm still happy with it anyway...can't believe how well a little kid can play on those things... he's better than me... but then again i'm useless lol
