i flashed a benq some time ago, had lots of problems (e65) but got it
to work again. however, when the dashboard loads, i always get open tray
even with originals. i have checked the original firmware and the changed firmware they are both legit also tried rubber band and piece
of plastic trick. anyone have any suggestions??

has to be your firmware. Try to restore back to orig and see if that is ok. Then re-try the whole process again if that goes smoothly

Yea, if the original firm don't work, the drive is toast. Probably the laser.
