whats the difference between firmware and keys?

im confused. normally i would update the firmware only. (running ver 8)now guys are saying insert the keys manually. i know how to do it but i dont know why.
can someone explain what is meant by this.
ive got keymaster but it doesnt work for me.
everytime i go into the menu my keys have changed from the ones i put in last time.

the firmware is the programmable eeprom chip on your board.
When the rom fix is found then someone will write an instruction set for your firmware and you will upload it to your box. This will change the way the box deals with the signals it receives when trying to auto update. When it is fixed it will automatically detect the keys and save them for use.
When the information changed and the firmware did not know what to do with the signals you took over that part of it's job by looking up the keys, changing them and saving them for use.

If you simply click the starview updates under my sig, theres a tutorial on how to manually input!!

Hi can you tell me what cable I need to get, so I can use the firmware instead of putting the keys in manually?

You needs a null modem cable 9 pin female to 9 pin female available in Maplins

hi on V****n Media's own cable box,can you open up their menu page and see the key codes on them? hope that made sense??

ok got it. so the firmware also the keys to auto update. but the firmware isnt working so inputting the keys manually might work for a day until they are changed again.
im in contact with a guy in england that says his box is running ok after updating manually, lucky bastard.
where you at parkhead yesterday?
