so if i read that correctly on the last line we can flash the liteon instead of only reading it? if thats the case then freaking sweet. i picked up the arcade/GH3 package on black friday and im going to assume it has the liteon drive in it.

yeah, I had posted about this in a couple of threads.

The current status with the liteon is that it CAN be flashed. HOWEVER, it had been previously not possible to dump the original liteon fw. But now since they have it, they are working on creating a hacked fw for the liteon.

So right now it is possible to flash the liteon, but there is no hacked fw yet... hopefully it will get here soon!

well it was pretty much thought by all that it was read only. But apparently we were wrong, and c4eva found a way to write to it.

I would probably wait until 1.5 comes out now to swap out the drives. 1.5 should make the swap as stealth as possible.

Hopefully a flash for the liteon will follow 1.5 soon. Unfortunately, we don't have a release date for either.

Here's to hoping for either a good christmas or early christmas present!

ha, what up yosel. not sure on an eta for the liteon fw. but like I said, 1.5 should hopefully be out sometime soon, which will allow for stealth spoofing of liteons. Hopefully liteon would follow soon after.

heres the most important question, if you know the answer lol, will new hardware be required to flash the liteon (i mean for us non solder types? who payed extra for spears etc lol)
from what i could work out the spear only patchs the tx line not the rx (where as a solder job patchs both rx and tx if that makes sense) so could you in theory use the spear on the rx line when writtening firmware ?

i know i know all this is proberly too soon to be asking im just curious :)

Thanks for the update with this.. there's only a few things i have to question about it...

To my understanding.. with the new NXE update to the system.. they have added a hardware check. so. if the system comes back with an error (or w/e) it'll ban it for good.. will the new cfw tell the system that it's all legit??... so there would be the possibility of playing copied games w/o being banned???.. or even having the system on live w/o being banned?... i like the new look of the NXE but... i love the freedom of the CFW for game play... so i would love to have both.

good question, I don't think anyone really knows right now. Hopefully we can utilize all the same hardware, but that's something only those who are working on the firmware know right now.

@chunky

Where did you get the info that the new nxe includes a hardware check? You meaning that all the hardware will check to make sure that expected drives in the 360 are there? I don't know if that's right, but show me/us the source so we can look at it.

After the NXE, the 360 checks to make sure the efuse was in fact blown. That'd be considered a hardware check. So, we just have to wonder what else is being checked.

To be quite honest... this info was passed onto me through word of mouth.. I do believe it because the one i heard this from is an experienced tech and said he had heard it from a friend who works at M$... so... i haven't done too much research on it yet.. but i don't wanna rule out any possibilities. if i do find info as to back up what i've heard i will post it. if not than someone is lying to me

i figured i'd add to the info i've heard about the hardware check from previous posts... from what i was told.. it automatically checks you're hard ware to see if it was altered in anyway and sends the info to where ever.. from which point you're 360 is banned from live all together.. even if u change from wired to wireless to change M.A.C. address... that is to the point i can remember

Quick question here regarding Ixtreme 1.5 (when its released)

Can i flash directly onto my current firmware (1.4), or do i have to flash back to my original firmware first?

Well, after every dashboard update, an efuse is blown so that it is not possible to go back to the previous kernel, I don't know if I would consider this a "hardware check".

Further more, I know some people whose liteon drives I've spoofed, and their consoles aren't banned, so from my experience, I am going to have to say it isn't true.

@johncchc

It looks like atleast one part of the new updated firmware would be good to have for the samsung (updated bad angle support). But for the most part, it seems that 1.5 is dedicated more towards the benq or for drive spoofing. So if you had a samsung being spoofed as a liteon, you would obviously want 1.5.

Yes, during every dash update, an efuse is blown. But before, the 360 never had any check in place to determine that the efuse was actually blown. Modders running an Infectus chip had removed the resistor so the efuses wouldn't blow, allowing them to revert back to an exploitable kernel.

But now, included with the NXE, the 360 will send the signal to blow an efuse, and then it'll check to determine that it was actually blown. If it wasn't blown, the console gives an "E80" error. There are plenty of posts over on xboxhacker about this.

So yes, I would say it's doing a hardware check.

Now, I realize this isn't relevent to the topic, but I'm saying if the console is now checking this, then what else is it checking?

Because the Sam, Hit, and Benq/Lite On all read the security info differently, maybe MS uses that info to help determine spoofed consoles. By itself, that info obviously wouldn't be enough to ban someone (or else every spoofed Lite On would be banned), but it may throw up a flag. And when combined with other flags (bad backups, etc.), then the console is banned.

@bhetrick

That's interesting. I did not know that the new dashboard did that check. I was thinking about the 360 specifically checking which drive it had, or so, but I hadn't learned about that new check. THat's pretty interesting, thanks for the info.

I would also definitely agree about the flagging when different than expected SS values are returned. I could very easily see how that could be true.

I had mentioned something similar to this whole check thing, and posted on Xbox-Scene that Microsoft pretty much knew about every modder, and I was completely barraged with moderators and other users telling me that I'm wrong. I stand by what I said then and now, and I'll say it here, Microsoft knows of every console that has been firmware hacked. I guarantee you they only choose a specific amount of people to ban at a given time, and as someone said before, the amount of "red flags" given off in addition.

On topic with this new 1.5 firmware, I highly doubt that it will offer you any additional protection if anything. And it's main focus seems to be the Benq drive. I would hope that the new technique used to flash the Lite-On would be software based, but I'm not holding my breath.

So realistically if not playing an actual pressed retail copy, you'll be exposed regardless of any new firmware. Although I will say, I am excited for the fact that they are making progress on the Lite-On drives. They're very smart people, I'll give them that.

And you'll get the same thing here. What do you expect when you make statements like that without posting any proof.

Without anything to actually prove what you state, you have no credibility.
