Ok...take a look here...it may not even be factual all of it...but i do know that the lite-on is progressing well...there has been a lot floating around the net about people mimicking c4eva..so you decide with this one...it's a link given by irc themselves...so you believe in or you don't...

I doubt you have been "in touch" with the team developing the firmware. And no, there is no ETA on the firmware. When there is, I will be sure to edit the title to let everyone know.
I am a frequenter of the channels which talk about the latest developments in the fw, so I will be able to find out, and update the thread when I know.

put it this way ...i'm covering my ar$e...i know whats what,but everyone is getting sick of looking at irc logs that have turned out fake...now i don't want to be blamed for being one of them,and i certainly didn't blame the original poster that posted the same link as me well i hope i didn't blame him and certainly hope that he also doesn't get the blame from everyone either...thats i why i said believe or you don't..it's as simple as that. i'll leave it at that :)

My old 360 video card fried, sent it in for repair. I Didn't even bother to reflash the drive w/ original 78 f/w. No issues. I managed to get free repair even though it was out of warranty thanks to the nice support person who labeled it as RRoD. They promptly sent me a new Elite system - but - with the Lite-On drive.
It's just a matter of time, and I'm patiently waiting -- and playing a lot of GH2 (the only original game I own) in the meantime.
Big shout-outs to all those dedicating the ridiculous number of hours to do this stuff.

that's awesome. From what I haerd, it will be a little more involved process to flash the drive, well, atleast in getting the drive key. You will have to solder, or use a device similar to the spear to read the drive key from the liteon. But you can still flash back via sata. Don't know if it is still with that same via chipset (hope so).

guesswho, I'm pretty sure your right, because unlike was going around here before that the drives were read-only, its actually they are write-only (at least thats what i was told int he fw channel). Thats why soldering/spear/executer thing is required to read the firmware (to get to Tx or transmit data line). However it is writable, so the process for putting the new firmware on it should be the same.
As far as the chipset being the same, it should be. I don't think it was a compatibility issue w/other chipsets, as much as their inability to recognize and flash the drives. I'm sure there is nothing vastly different about the way these drives are designed, therefore the nforce and via chipsets that were compatible still should be.

i was wondering on my quetion to my last post about wasting money on buying an xbox. When this firmware comes out to flash the liteon drives will it be able to be flashed with the regular and easier iprep way or what i really would like to know in detail.
