efuses deal with the kernel version running in the 360, not the dvd drive firmware. So yes, you are able to revert back to your original firmware from 1.5 (when it releases).
But yes, it's been accepted, that once you flash it, it is possible that MS could detect your fw, even if you flash back to original.
Now how likely is it? Well it depends on the games you play, and everything like that. If you were to take a new 360, flash the drive to ixtreme, then flash back to original fw, chances are, you would not get banned. It would say it is highly unlikely.
But, the second the fw is changed, everyone in the "scene" assumes that it is possible

I never understood fully the efuse deal. How many efuses are there to be blown then (10 or 100)? Is there a max number of updates you can make to your Xbox?

I don't know an exact number of how many efuses are there, but the way it works, is each time there is a dashboard update, MS blows an efuse, which prevents your 360 console from ever reverting back to that specific kernel.
And I'm pretty sure MS put in more than enough of them into the console to allow for all updates of the system life. Worst case, if MS didn't put enough, they just wouldn't be able to prevent us from rolling back to a new dashboard. It wouldn't prevent you from getting the update.
But like I said, this has nothing to do with the dvd firmware.

the problem i see is microsoft will now know they have untill dec 24th to detect all spoofed drives (we know were detectable but they aint looking at mo) lets face it they know they will lose the abilitie to detect spoofed drives on the 24th so they would be stupid not to search now

I'm not really sure if that would help. If MS tried to run the command already, and your drive was unable to perform it, then you might already be flagged. But I guess you might as well atleast try to protect yourself from now until its release.

*G* you hit the nail right on the head....glad i didn't break release :) it is subject to change but they have to make sure it's all working fine,been tested with assassins creed so far so good.
Just remember it came from mrgreaper and not me :)
Also, I'm sorry, but I really hope people aren't believing what this guy says. Again, everything he's posted is all publically available. Like saying it's been tested with one game? Assassin's Creed. How can anyone know this? It's all on the log of the #fw channel for anyone to be able to read.
It's just a warning. Please take his statements that were "directed to him from the team" with a grain of salt, as they were publically available from a website.

it is absoulte bullshit all the money put in to buy those key extracting kits for the liteon drive and things. It would really be helpful to know if there is a way around not having to extract the key (by sodldering or with that probe thing) and make it easy like with the other drives or i'll just return my xbox because its not worth it to spend that much money when it could just go toward a gaming pc that i know i can backup my games for

unfortunately it's the only way for the lite-on,if you don't do it for a living/hobby maybe cheaper for you to get someone to do it for you.if your not keen about spending the money...take your console back then :) and find a benq.

You obviously haven't heard the effort Microsoft went to create this protection scheme (video: http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.y...QSCfc5fzIpVKugg ). Apparently it's the best one made ever - even so, as you can see it has some faults (otherwise we wouldn't be flashing DVD drives) - but in a future Xbox model (720 or whatever) I imagine they will make it even harder/expensive.

So quick question when the new 1.5fw comes out. Can I use it on a older DVD DRIVE. It curently has the 1.4fw or should I just stick w/this one.

actually you don't if you're very resourceful...
there's a poor mans extraction kit tutorial over on xbox-scene ... it involves bare electronic components that you'd have to pull out of household items, spare computers, circuit boards, etc...
but in theory it can be done for $0 if you have the spare parts and the know-how...

thx donaldo. But i think if i have to extract the key i'll just go with the soldering solution bc my friend is really good w/it. Wondering if anyone could sell the xexcuter v3 pro set on ebay for cheap bc i only saw one

thx guys but ive found my solution by taking back my liteon drive xbox and buying off ebay a 20 gig one for less (bc i know they dont make 20 gig hard drives anymore and they will have an older drive) thx for help though!

technically yeah. Flashing it will be just as easy. But you will have to read the key off of your drive first, and that is a little more involved process.
