No. At this time it is still as scheduled and I really dont see it coming much earlier. Not sure who is informing you but sounds like they have some incorrect information. Either way, its only 8 days away.

I think u guys have the right to release whenever you want since you are doing all the hard work on this. But xmas eve is kinda odd timing, sure itsa nice gift :) but most ppl will be busy with holiday stuff with family and such. I have a system i want to give as a gift but will have to ask for it back so i can mod it. but like i said i understand and u guys have the right to do what you wish, and i know that most likely it is because more testing is being done and such and that is a good thing and im sure we can all appreciate the time and effort spent to make sure it is well put together as possible.
so im not complaining at all, u guys are awesome in my book even if it was to get delayed further(please no) lol

I watched the video and loved the method of acid bathing the chip, I just hope that the people at microsoft sit back and think "we cant win" because history tells us that there is always someone cleverer

I ususally do it for $35-$45. For the liteon, I might just flat do $45 or so, since it is a little more involved. We'll see when the final process comes out.

I agree with both. The attackers will always win, because all they need to do is find one weakness anywhere. Defenders can't defend everything forever.

And the process of decapping chips to extract firmware is definitely a really interesting process. And pretty sweet since that's what they did for this drive.

Question - Will modding the liteon pose a bigger risk than doing it like the other drives? i.e. Will there be a higher chance of getting banned if using the new method for liteon?

As far as the team and their research goes, you will be just as safe with flashing the liteon and playing backups as you would be with any other drive that you flash.

To the Hackers......

RESPECT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK...

I dont mind waiting till next year to get new firmware.. The more tests which can be done the better...Lets hope someday someone at microsoft will leak what they are doing to detect modded units. Then we will be sorted for at least a while.

what type of acid would you have to dip the chip in to mod the liteons?

that precedure was only done to extract the firmware from the chip. it isnt something that we the end user of such firmware would have to do. besides i think it pretty much destroys the console said chip is removed from.

so you mean that when i get my system modded, the modder won't have to dip the chip in acid?

Here's a question from an XBOX 360 nub. I recently got my hands on a brand new XBox 360 arcade. I say "got my hands on it" because it was an indirect free gift. :) Anywho, I was all happy that per my reading that I got my hands on one of the "newer" units with the newer motherboard and processor. However then I took the faceplate off and saw the dreaded two yellow cables in the small opening under the DVD drive which I guess means it's not a Benq drive but a LiteOn.

I assume if I was to burn on a Verbatim disk some "backups" that pass abgx360 and XDVDMulleter's checks that it still won't play? I could care less about Live. Trying to confirm if the firmwares are more for accessing Live or if backed up games won't play at all on an XBox without the firmware update.

Besides that, is the LiteOn the drive of the future for this product and that there would be a good chance if I took it to Best Buy and swapped it for a different one or paid the extra $100 for a Pro I would end up with another LiteOn?

Thanks.

JR

wow stealing someones xbox nice.

anyways xboxs will not play backup games without the firmware. And you will have to wait for the 1.5 to use it with your lite-on

no they will not, read the earlier posts in this thread describing the spear method. or better yet just look on utube for videos of the entire process. i know its there cause i have seen it. should be link somewhere in this thread, try in the past 4 pages before this page.

once iXtreme 1.5 is released for lite-on drive, you will need to extract your key, apply that to 1.5 fw for lite-on, and flash it to the lite-on drive. There is a high chance that returning the console, only to get a different console, you will get another lite-on. MS has been using lite-on since april 08 and i bet by now every team and every manufacturing place is now using lite-on. Only thing you could try for is a console after 10-20-08 for a jasper mobo, unless yours is already a jasper... then just wait for 1.5 lite-on fw

Thanks for the info. According to what I read, I do have the Jasper motherboard. It comes with 256 Megs on board, says 12V-12.1A on the back, and has per this website (http://www.360drives.com/howto) the Jasper power connector. Have been reading these things determine if it's a Jasper. The last picture on the page of that website link shows all the signs of a Jasper. Nice graphic.

Guess I'll have to wait. Hopefully the 1.5 comes with support for the LiteOn. From what I have been reading here, the update is more toward the Benq drive and maybe later it will contain support for the LiteOn but who knows. Probably all speculation.

All I know is it is mucho appreciated all the hard work being done on patching these systems, just ain't gonna be one of those people posting messages about being willing to wait another year for it. After all what's the point. I would think in a year the XBox 360 will be moving toward obsolescence.

Perhaps I could say the same, however do not want to get into a pissing match like some people like to start in these threads. If you read my post I said I was reading that it may come in a later revision of 1.5 for the LiteOn. I don't think unless you are an expert you can guarantee what will be in 1.5 can you? If you can then that's great. If not, then don't jump all over someone who is just quoting a comment made earlier in the thread.

lol this thread would not even exist if it wasnt for the liteon modding. pretty much the whole point of 1.5 is the liteon.

Is there anything to indicate that a swapped-in Benq with 1.5 will be more stable than a Liteon with 1.5? Or should they be the same?
