I'd be more worried about the makers of the STB'oxes withdrawing support for the earliest verions of their product than the cable companies making it very difficult for us. thats what most business people do when they want you to buy the latest versions of their products.

Same for me. The firmware update seemed fine, everything was back to normal but today it's all gone again. Very painful. Anyone got any ideas why? The firmware I used was version 2.00. Is there a newer one? Thanks.

This is the link to the new firmware (2.00) which I used and was fine, but has now lost all channels again. Looks like it's back to manual entry. Has no-one else had the same problem with the EX5000?

Me. It summarises how most DVB newcomers seem to feel when they can't access their precious unpaid-for channels.

This is what i posted today

Just been listening to a radio programme here in Dublin, they have had the chairman of NTL/UPC saying that they are going after the suppliers of illegal boxes in Ireland and have already got one of the biggest to cooperate with them and give them a list of purchasers:

Also they said they are going to use a different system in January (higher frequency I think he said) that will make all these boxes non and void. He said they are going to crack down on suppliers and users.

Anyone know about this?

The party is over for some I am sorry to say.

Oh well, time to start looking at getting a sattelite dish installed!

Not really a valid question and this thread has gone on enough with rife speculation. If you want something done it costs money, same for them simple as that.
Considering so many people keep repeating that the cable companies can't afford to do this more often it seems a very valid question.

Well reading some newbie's reply's thinking that VM have crippled us by disabling the auto update and that we have to start paying soon is starting to get on my nerves!! if your not happy with what the top guys on this thread do then why write comments? iv'e been a member for over 3 years now and have seen and heard it all from people who think that its all over and should start installing SLY.
by all means if thats what you feel comfortble with then go ahead but there's no need to waste space on these forms! sorry if it's harsh but sometimes you have to say it straight.

Another useless posting! This thread might be a bit hard for you to comprehend. Maybe there are some other forums which will suit you better such as adolescent sites!

Come back in a few years sonny!

why dont you just "start paying for channels" and leave it at that, do one.
I cant speak for everybody else but Im remaining here, staying patient and taking the gamble!!
If it dont happen then hey never mind.

See you can do it.

Happy Xmas to you.

Back on topic............it seems no one knows how much it costs to roll the keys. They are GUESSING that it costs a lot but can't back it up with evidence.

Also...........nobody has come up with a valid reason why the keys can't be rolled every day.

If nobody knows for definite, just say. Time will tell.

There you go with your misunderstanding again. keys are rolled as often as once a day. You just don't notice it because the CAM takes care of it.

it's the man hours involved in changing the encryption method that has to cost money above normal operating costs ( at a time when NTL are shedding jobs all over the country ) and as you can see it's ineffective. It causes more disruption to these forums than it does to the viewing public.

Only when they change to a different encryption method completely, one that your boxes are unable to deal with will they stop the illegal boxes for a while. Small matter of them having to supply every customer with a new box and card at the company's cost.

I don't know how many times I can keep telling you that the keys will roll regularly as they have been doing for years. It's not a problem until the infrastructure is replaced.
