Hi all, i'm about to have a go for the first time at updating the firmware on my box (Starview 2, when the fix is released) and i just want to be sure on what i need exactly...
I am going to follow the guides on here and hopefully i can do it! I've read that i need a NULL MODEM cable? Is that the only cable i need, and i have the 9 pin thing at the back of my computer, is that ok or will i have to buy any adaptor?
Also looking on ebay, there's different length cables, will the box have to be connected up to the TV when i update it, if so i will need a fairly long cable as my computer is quite far away from it...
Appreciate any help, i just wanna make sure i have the right equipment to start with!

If you have 9 pin in your pc all you will need is the null modem cable.

The length isn't important as the box isn't plugged into tv while updating, only the computer.

Brilliant thanks lads, so the box definetly does not have to be on or connected to the TV when updating, just to the PC? If that's the case i'll buy the cheaper cable which is the 2 metre length, and that should be fine?
Cheers

lol ok this can get a bit confusing for a novice like me! So i can plug the box in, but it don't have to be connected up, just plugged in and on standby, then i connect the cable to it and the pc, and then basically download the software from here, and then it's done?
How long does it take to flash?
Thanks for your help jj

If you have the correct recent firmware of yesterday, then go to the Starview Link at the bottom of post 2nd line and follow the guide.

Updating Firmw@re SV 1/2/3

Connect your box and PC with a Null modem cable and switch on the cable box and put it on STANDBY.
(The Starvi*w does not need to be connected to TV to update it with GTROM)

Open GTROM Loader software make sure that you set the correct COM PORT that matches the one that is being used

Make sure App file only is selected, then click b1n File & browse to the firmw@re where you downloaded it to on your PC.

Run the GTROM loader by pressing Download and you will see the % progress increase then Download completed message on your PC.

Wait until you see the DOWNLOAD COMPLETE p0p up on your PC before removing the NULL MODEM CABLE.

The Starvi*w will then reboot

Disconnect from PC and connect back up to the TV :)
