Can a 2001 on 4x firmware be modded?

I just had this psp brought to me and it's a 2001 psp with 4x firmware out of box.Can it be modded?Cause I found a guide that said some people have modded it but to my luck it didn't work.I had created A boot memory stick and cut trace 19 on the battery,but as I inserted battery the psp acted no diff from when it wasn't cut.I have searched around for this answer, but from what I have read I am a little confused on if it can or not.

if you tried it, and the battery won't turn it on, then you have the ta-088v3 motherboard. there's nothing you can do about them.

Ya kind of thought that.I have been reading for days and it seems like, that is when the switch started,some people have been sucessful where others arent so lucky like myself.Thanks
