Recently, my house got robbed, and amongue the things taken was my xbox 360 =(
I have a question now... as i am trying to replace it and re-mod it...
I've been purchasing used xbox's through gamestop, and I tried 3 times to get my hands on a hitachi drive as those are simple to mod, but each time i got a samsung. Finally i decided to give up and just do the samsung. I ordered the via sata card, but first i have one important question:
I got a refurb unit (has the green gamestop sticker on the back that sais "void if removed", BUT i noticed that the microsoft warranty seal is totally pealed off and disguarded. My concern is... could this have been a xclamp temporary fix?
Can i just be paranoid? Does anyone know if refurb units at gamestop all go through this process of removing the microsoft warranty seal to check out the inside of the box, or is this suspect of some internal tampering from the previous user?
I'm trying to be REALLY careful, as i do not wish to re-purchase another xbox 360 in 3 months after the xclamp fix fails, if that is why it was opened to begin with.
I'm not really experienced with this whole purchase of a used system thing for modding. All i know is that a LOT of xbox's have the RROD problem, and i would like to know some tips from some seasoned vets on how i should best buy a used system for modding, and if i should trust this gamestop unit or send it back.
I would definitely call gamestop and ask them about it. I don't know gamestop practices when receiving used consoles, or if they purchase them and do the xclamp fix. Good question. But I would definitely call and see if it is typical of them to remove the MS warranty sticker and attach their own. If it's not, then I would be a little hesitant and see if you could swap it out.
Worst case, is this a sticker you could peel off with a hair dryer and replace back on so you can see the inside?
My bet is that it got the three red lights and Gamestop fixed it. If it is a refurb then they would have had to take it apart to fix it which they would have had to break the M$ seal. With that said I purchased a 360 with the RRoD and did the Xclamp mod, flashed it and it is my son's room now running good as new. The RRoD is too easy to fix to be worried about it.
I flashed my Samsung MS28 with no problems after getting help from a guy on this forum.

I was under the impression that there is no PERMANENT fix from the RROD. From what i understood from numerous posts on this very forum, the xclamp repair is understood as a "temporary fix", and WILL return after a few months.
Is this true, or would a refurb with the x clamp fix = i really shouldn't worry about it as it's good as new?
first of all gamestop does not do their own x-clamp fix's thats just retarded. secondly, if done properlly an x-clamp fix could last as long as the xbox itself, or until a new console comes out. problem is, most people rush, and dont do it properly. thirdly, i would do as said above, and just call them. sounds pretty fishy to me.
