Im about to install 2 wiikey 2's this week. I have allready done the wiikey 1 but this one seems to be a bit different. SO what I am asking is if there is anywhere special to place the chip, like what is the most secure place? Is anyone hot gluing the chip down? Or is there a way to do it like the quick install on the wiikey where the wires hold it in place.
Thanks guys

Use this link to help you take apart your Wii and at the end of the tutorial, it shows you a great place to install the chip.

http://www.wii-ftw.com/?page=disassembling_wii

Install the wires on the chip first, then hot glue the chip to the spot the tutorial instructs. Then, after you hot glue it, solder the wires to the board.

The toughest point to do is solder point #6. I don't know why others haven't posted their difficulties with that point (it's soooo small).

I had a Wii that the pad was lifted on that point, and there was nothing left to solder to. However, if you follow that trace on the board, you can solder to the second leg of that chip WITHOUT having to solder to the point they reference as point #6 (G).

I have also found out that a weak connection on the G point will create intermittent drive problems (accepting a disc only by powering off and on the Wii several times).

Good luck and let us know your results.

thanks , there was a great vid on youtube for dissasemling too but not sure if it exists. As for that final picture, either I am blind or just having a hard time seeing where it is marked?

As for the solder point (allthough I have not done that one yet) I can only suggest that you tin your wires first, dip in flux and solder with an iron between 15-25 watts. On tiny solder points like that, that should help.
and for that picture, is the yellow dot over the screw where it suggests the spot to put it?

resluts went good than not good, drive would not oen for the life of me, and chip was getting really hot, now I have also lifted off that pad on the #6 point. going to try to follow the trace and see what one it is. And try new chip. Also grabbed smaller wire. Hope it goes better this time.
