aight...i got my arctic silver 5 in...finally! cleaned everything up on the mother board, put a little bit of silver compound on the board, spread it around evenly on the pieces and did the whole "place the fan on the gpu and blah blah blah" i let it run for about 10 mins and then let it sit for about 30-45 mins to cool down and guess what...still 3 red lights....what did/didnt i do....im so tired of messing with this thing...but i want it to work!!!


do i need to let the paste sit before i put everything back together....im just running out of ideas....

any help is appreciated....

I let the RROD systems I fix run for a minimum of 30 minutes before I cut them off and let them cool down.
Do you have your secondary error code?

did you do the x-clamp as well? or did you just replace the thermal paste? And even if you did, this isn't necessarily a guaranteed fix, your only option may be to have it re-flowed. There is a guy who does it on ebay for $35 +shipping.

When I did mine I cleaned the three chip to a mirror like finish cleaned off CPU and headsink applied paste (use adapter or your finger in a plastic bag) evenly + a tiny bit in the centre replaced x-clips with bolts, spring & spacer washers just tightend a little not to tight replaced motherboard & switch panel but not the fans started xbox had 3 red light run it until it changes to 2 red lights seemed to take ages turn it off remove motherboard be careful cpu heatsink very very hot use cloth or gloves tighten the bolts A LITTLE MORE put xbox back together and it worked.
