I updated my 360 with the leaked firmware and i tried to watch a avi via a usb stick but the 360 said it needs an update when i tried to connect to the net the 360 could get on the net but not log into live.
1) is because i have no xbox live subscription?
2) can i apply the patch to watch movies manually?
Yes you will have to atleast create a silver to get it, There is no way to manually put that update on.
Also you Could use something else to watch Divx,Avi, etc......There is Transcode360,tversity,and I think some others but those are the most popular ones.
Yea wmv doesnt need an update, thats why i use it cause i do not have internet at my home and i cant bring my 360 to work.
also in the title of the thread it says the leaked NXE is being used. why dont u get the official update and see what happens, if u havent already anyway. connecting to live with silver account should let u update i believe.

Here's where i got my NXE update (prior to the 19th) -> http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/719833/4373578. I put it on a usb stick and it installed fine. Then when NXE was officially released i went on xbox live and it was installed again along with the AVI update(s)
thanks, i will try to get online tonight, i do have a silver membership i used the 30 day gold trial so i should still be able to connect, but is there anyway of getting the update on a usb stick and apply the patch- if i cant get online?
Yes you can get the NXE update online, if that link i provided doesn't still have it i imagine it's still available elsewhere. As to the AVI update(s) i don't believe they can be manually downloaded anywhere, i couldn't find them anyways. I can't remember what thread i posted in but basically i don't trust playing *cough* downloaded *cough* AVI's etc on a 360, not with Microsoft controlling/providing the update(s)/potentially tracking all our media. I will stick to playing all my media via old type xboxes and XBMC (i only tried a few example AVI's on my 360's to to trigger the update(s), but as i say, now the update(s) are on there, i won't be using them in a hurry.
