Xbox 360 Samsung-Toshiba MS28 Restore Original Firmware

How do I restore the original firmware? When I made my USB stick in March for the iXtreme 1.4 firmware, I copied the entire USB stick to my file server.
Right now I dumped all of those files back onto a USB stick, and then tried restoring my original firmware with the rSam command, but it didn't seem to work. My Xbox 360 Premium with Samsung MS28 can still read backed up games.
Could anyone tell me how to restore my original firmware if I still have the original .bin file?

Well what do ya know I burned out my DVD drive. I guess the plug wasn't in correctly. :(
Is it easy to swap out the DVD drives in these? Now that's what I'm going to have to do.

It is relatively easy to swap drives in the 360 as long as you 1 get the same make and model drive and 2 have the key that was with the original drive (should be on the USB stick) just open the Firmware with the Maximus firmware tool and copy the key.
As for restoring a MS28 back to the original FW you should be able to rename the sam-OFW.bin to sam-CFW.bin and flash it using the fsam command. In theory this works however I have not tried it but I can't see any reason for it to not work. Hope this helps.

This is exactly what I was sitting here thinking just 10 min ago. I tried the rSAM command as the tutorial explains, but that didn't do the trick. I turned on my 360 after trying the rSAM command and still I could read backups.
I was going to try exactly what you said, but the 3RLOD problem came back (even though I did the heat gun and x-plate mod a month ago and modified my cooling!!) On top of that, I plugged my DVD drive back in and it burned out.
So now I have the 3RLOD and a dead DVD drive. What else could go wrong? =/

One more thing, though, I have a Samsung-Toshiba MS28... that's all I gotta look for, right? I have the original key, but I don't know what "Maximus" is. I used iPrep v006.

To the best of my knowledge yes. Just get a MS28 drive and extract the key code from the original drive and insert it into the replacement drive. I used Maximus Firmware Tool Box (download here) to open the original firmware so I could copy the key.
Is Iprep the only program you used to flash your 360? When I created the crack the key read FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF and I had to replace it with the correct key using Maximus.

I just downloaded and I also see a bunch of other .exe files in the zip file. Are those useful?
So I grab the key from my original (dead) drive, but how do I insert it into the new drive?? Can't I just take my original firmware from my dead drive?

Yes you can use the firmware from your original drive and flash the new drive. As for the other exe files I don't know if they are useful I have only used the Firmware tool.

Thanks a bunch, man. I greatly appreciate the prompt help you've offered. :)
Now I just have to decide if it's worth the ~$30 to get a new DVD drive from ebay... I still don't know if my 360 was banned from live or not!! I wanted to unhack my 360 last night, so that I could go on live and see if I'm banned or not, now I'll never know.
Basically, I'll spent $30 for a new drive if it's not banned, but if I know it's banned, I wouldn't waste my time.
WHAT TO DO!?!! :(

I have the same sort of problem but it was my ms25 drive that burnt out while I tried fixing the drive open/close problems I was having. I have the original FW and an ms28 drive that I bought but I don't know what to do next. Can someone give me some step by step instructions?

Then I used the spoof function in Firmware tool to make the ms28 drive look like an ms25. So now the firmware I downloaded has the old drives key and is spoofed to report as ms25. Now do I just flash the ms28 drive with this modified 1.41 firmware or do I have to do something else? Using iPrep 008 pro Beta.

This is a good question. I wonder if you can drop an MS25 FW on an MS28 like that...

The 1.41 iXtreme fw was for ms28 but I added the old drive key and spoofed it to be ms25. So am I now able to just flash it and start playing? My 360 has been down for 3-4 months now and I'm still clueless on what I have to do now.

1.41 is a benq firmware. don't put that on your samsung. what you described will work if you are using the proper fimware. actually it is neccessary to spoof to the drive that was originally installed no matter what drive you are installing

Spoofing means just putting the original key onto a different drive, right?

Not exactly. Remember a couple of things: the KEY is mated to the motherboard so whatever drive you use you must have the original KEY. Spoofing is putting a diferent "identity" on the drive. The xbox and sometimes even xbox live will inquire about the drive model to see if it matches what was originally installed. When you spoof you add a couple small sections of code that will appear as a MS25 even if it is a MS28(for example), when inquired of course. See what I am saying? Spoofing is very simple with firmware toolbox. Some models require you to spoof original firmware, some do not. Toolbox will prompt you with what is neccessary.

I guess since I had an MS28 and I bought another MS28, I won't need to spoof. I can probably just dump my ORIGINAL FIRMWARE onto it and take it from there... let's hope so! That's what I have planned to do.

You can probably google and find a picture of the different kind of DVD drives... basically you open the DVD tray and compare it to the pix online.
You could also start your own thread to get better responses.
Guys, I bought an MS28 replacement drive on ebay and guess what... I received an MS25!!! False description...
What can I do if I have the original firmware from my burnt out MS28?? Or should I truly just send this MS25 back since it was the wrong item (the seller already offered that option).

Screw returning it. Dump the firmware to your PC and flash with the MS28 FW and key. If it doesn't work then reflash it with the original MS25 FW and return it. Whats the worst that could happen you waste 20 minutes of your life. You have already waisted enough waiting for the drive whats 20 more minutes.
