Hi, I dont own a 360 yet but I want to be able to view vids from my pc on my 50in plasma. I read somewhere that the 360 can do this with the aid of a wireless bridge, is this true? What all will I need to do this? Thanks.
I don't do this wirelessly but it is possible. I run a cable to my xbox through my router. I stream Blurays/divx/dvd over to my 360 connected to my 62" DLP. Looks and sounds wonderful! If you have Windows Media Center it is easy, but it is not required. You can use another program like TVersity .
Awesome, so all I have to get besides the 360 is a cable? What kind? My tv is about 30 to 40 ft away from my modem. Thanks for the info. I cannot figure out another way to be able to do this. I have dvds backed up on externals and cant watch them.
You get a Cat5 network cable and run it from your router to the xbox, forget that wireless crap. You say you have a modem, but what about a router? If you do not yet have a router you will need to get one. Once you get it, check out www.tversity.com . I got it all setup within 10 minutes. They make it easy
Are you buying a 360 just to stream videos from your pc? If so then you need to look into getting a modded original xbox. A modded original xbox is even more compatable than a 360. Microsoft locked down the 360 to only reconize certain file types, a modded xbox can read any format you throw at it. It will also run in 1080i, and has the ability to access any network it's connected to.
So before thinking about getting a 360 just to stream media you should look into getting a modded original xbox. You can get them pretty cheap, and they're easy to softmod.
If you want any further information pm me and let me know, i'll be happy to show you the advantages of a modded xbox over a 360.
Yeah, if you're getting a 360 just to stream media, save your money and get a Popcorn hour. It will run about anything and it's under $200.
The 360 is such a pain with HD files that it's not really worth it if that is your main goal. If you want to stream mostly SD, then that or the aforementioned original modded XBOX would be a better choice.
Of course if you want to play games and stream some media, then carry on with the 360. ;)
