When they say 'brick' basically means it's a brick! As in, doesn't work, doesn't function, doesn't really do anything anymore.

Well it sounds like a laser issue.

Is you're drive trying to read but it can't?
If you haven't attempted to flash it yet then it can't be bricked.

If its just not reading you can replace the laser, calibrate it, or replace the drive.

If you do replace the drive try to get the same one, it makes it a little easier because you can just swap drive chips instead of spoofing and flashing it.

I would only do this if it isn't under warranty anymore. Also this problem does not fall under the 3 year red ring warranty.

I will also hesitate sending the box in because more than likely they will replace the drive with a lite-on, which until December (supposedly), they cannot be flashed.

Ya if it's never been flashed before, then that's not considered a brick. Like Donaldo said, the term for that is broken.

And even if it is a laser issue, I would still just send it back to M$ then having to try and install a new laser. Because of what's going on with the Liteon FW, we might see it before Christmas!

Yes I just said you can replace the laser in my last post.

But Donaldo is right, if its under warranty just send it in and you will get it back around the time of the new firmware.
