DVD-R vs. DVD-R DL

I have recently twilight hacked my wii. I tested it on games that were 1.2 - 2.4 GB compressed and works fine. I currently only have a dvd burner in my pc. My wife is buying me a dual layer burner for christmas. So for now I am downloading files that are 4+GB compressed till i get new burner. I know games like Super Smash Bros Brawl need a DVD-R DL disk to play full game. But from what I have read people seem to fit most all games on a regular DVD-R.

What program are they using? I have ImgBurn and use Nero. Not meaning to eat up more forum space. I searched the forum's and found nothing with my keywords or reading page to page. Posting on After Dawn cause seems people are a little more knowledgeable.

Games like
Call of Duty:WAW = 4417MB .rar
Wii Music= 4418MB .rar
ect.

I know they use something to take the movies out of SSBB. Are you cleaning garbage files out of games that a 4+GB rar'ed as well? Once I get my burner is there any harm burning a 4 gig game uncompressed on a DL? Besides wasting a disk.

The only game that is a DL is Super Smash Bros Brawl. All other Wii games uses a DVDR (4.7GB). Don't waste the DL on those.

There is a downsizing for SSBB that can reduce it to a single layer dvd. It removes the single player section, and you can only play multiplayer.

Oh, thanks for answering that. But I still a little confused. So you saying these files I am download atm that are 4.31GB zipped will uncompress under 4.7 to fit on disk. I was thinking that I would use winrar to open them and they would be like 6 gigs or so. Since they won't be done for a min I can't see for myself. Also you guys still get online and play burned games online? Awesome I thought that after doing the twilight to it I was stuck playing single player.

I understand not to update firmware, But I thought I read not to play online multiplayer, As Nintendo could see it. Again being misinformed by multiple noobs. Hence why I came to AD! Thanks again for input.

Most rar files are compressed 1 to 1 for the Wii, so you should get about 4.7GBs to burn on DVDR.

Tendo can't detect mods online, so it's safe to play online, but it may remove your t'light hack, so beware. Search for Wad installer topic.
